and it's look really amazing
(http://www.shinyidol.com/crap/aoe3.jpg)
-
woah, nice
-
Wow.
Too bad it'll be the same as every other old-age type RTS out there.
-
Where did you get the news?
There's nothing on it on MS website...

Well, finally a good news...
MS game studios focused too much on x-box for my tastes lately...
-
That's not a screenshot, if anything it's a cover.
-
Doesn't look SO great, IMO. I had to squint my eyes when the pic first loaded. Bright.
-
That stinks of fake like Shrike stinks of PVC.

I don't know anyway that pic has been posted other location and it's seems to be scanned from PC-gamers
-
Not if you read the text, it hasn't.
-
Looks like it could be a photoshopeed Empire Earth or (what was the other game? Made by the same guy, same concept).
EDIT: Nevermind.
-
No, its legit. The AOE3 teaser has been up on Ensemble's website for a few weeks now, and PC Gamer is also carrying the exlusive preview of it.
Flipside: looks like a screenshot to me. I mean, by today's standards, its not that advanced. Certainly well within the realm of possibility, especially when the game is set to be released at a future date.
-
Whatever good AoE3 will be, it will not beat Starcraft . . .
If there is a game I would never touch even if I were threatened, that would be Age of Empires.
-
What about Britney's Dance Studio?
-
I do not know that.
-
What gets me is up by the rooftops, in the background, it's turns to pencil-line by the looks of it. I could be wrong of course :) Or it might be some kind of DX9 shader, but if it is, I am greatly impressed :)
-
I think someone just went a bit overboard with the lightness, that's why the background rooftops look a bit wonky. The whole picture has that overexposure feel to it.
-
It could be, HL2 certainly proves the water is possible, so it could be a slightly over processed screeny...
Ah well, guess I'll find out when the previews start knocking around ;)
Either way, for some reason I find it hard to say 'Good to see another game sequel on the way'. :(

Agreed, I just hope it's good as other AOE series because they were really fun and good games

... no one said it would beat SC buddy...
and what do you have against AOE? great games... if you played starcraft, you should play AOE too.
and at that... anyone up for a game of AOE2 sometime?
-
How come no one makes turn-based strategy games anymore? Those were some of my favorites.
-
Not really sure. Especially as the Civ franchise was just sold...
-
Civ 4 is apparently in development.
-
How can it be in development if it just got sold?
-
i don't think it is a screenshot, because it just looks so painted.

quite possibly a screenie that's been given the photoshop treatment..
I.e: Duplicate layer - > gauss blur -> set layer to screen /linear dodge - > tweak opacity to suit.
gives a nice over-exposure look that enhances the lighting somewhat.
-
I really don't like either Age of Empires game, but I found Age of Mythology to be fantastic. Great singleplayer storyline that tied in elements of actual mythology, as well as very fun gameplay, good graphics and detail, and good voiceacting.
-
But can you type in '14' and have the game say "Start the game already!"?
-
From Age of Kings Heaven:
It seems quite likely that AOE III will be Age of Discovery at this point. Eagle Games, the creator of the Age of Mythology boardgame had some information on their site that said "Age of Discovery October 2005", it has since been changed to "Secret Project! October 2005" That seems mighty suspicious if you ask me.

Microsoft. That's all my problem.

Games published by Microsoft have always been at least decent.
It's not something you can say of most publishers today...
And the AOE series brought some of the best RTS around.

because it's been in development for quite some time. It's the rights that have been sold, i.e. publisher changed.

When they started moving into games, MS made some of the worst games in history. Their first shot at a football game strikes me as memorably abysmal..........
AoE... I liked first time I played it, but Rise of Nations beats it on the 'building & large scale tactics' side, and Rome:TW destroys it on the battle strategy (etc) side. So they've got a challenge on their hands to beat those 2.
-
I only played AoEII when I lost my WCIII disc... luckily, I found it again and was able to stop playing Age...

Seconded on the soccer game, but aside a few exceptions all MS games got at least 70+/100 on most reviews, and bot AOE and AOE2 scored above 90 AFAIK...
Regarding RoN, i liked it but i don't like quite much the fact that you can still win easily using swarming tactics, I.E. i finished the game by building exclusively light infantry in huge quantities...
R:TW is quite cool, even though i don't like too much how loyalty is managed... I tried it but i'll stay on M:TW as i like the gameplay better.
But yep, AOE3 will have to face a fierce competition, plus the fact that it will be severely limited in modding as per MS standard (i personally quite dislike that policy) means Ensemble will have to work much harder to get the same bang for the buck as before...

I once played AOE II for 8 hours straight. i wasn't not able.
-
In fairness I'm terrible at AoEII. I play it like Tiberian Sun, and sit behind my defences while I build up my tech levels. But that only works with Vulcan and RPG towers, not arrow-firing castles. So I end up getting raped when they build a stable about six yards from my perimiter and just send constant hoardes of cavalry at me...
-
Note to DG: change your strategy. ;)
-
There's another strategy? Ah yes, just Ion Canon and Orca bomber the **** out of them... If only AoE had aircraft... sigh

that's a little ignorant, wouldn't you say? i mean it's not like the division that made AOE is the same one that programmed Windows (which i assume is why you hate Microsoft)
it's like saying you hate the Ferrari Enzo, because you hate the Fiat Palio... they're completely different divisions, but owned by the same company.
or even worse *gasps* it's like saying you hate Freepsace, because you hated Red Faction :p OK i'm going a little off-topic here, but you get my point :) anyway, i think you should try it. you're a SC fan, and so am i, and i loved it, so it's worth a try :)

I play it like I play Red Alert / Starcraft, sending in hordes of swordsmen, archers and calvary, to watch them get sodomized by their respective weaknesses in Rock-Paper-Scissors fashion.
What made me mad was when they applied that to Star Wars: Galactic Battlegrounds. Tried to pull some **** having the Trade Federation tanks not being able to kill anything but vehicles. :wtf:

Thats real, that kind of 'bloom' effect (I think thats the name) has been done before, on Guild Wars, FEAR, and another upcoming RTS.

yeah, it doesn't work in other situations. in Empire Earth, frigates took out galleys which took out battleships which took out frigates. there is no reason that that would happen, but they like to apply the rock-paper-scissors thing to everything.

but you played Starcraft like a n00b...
EDIT2: ehh nevermind, i just watched a few replays, and you weren't that bad

My only problem with Microsoft is that they are limitlessly greed. Age of E 2 had the same prize of 15,000 Hungarian forints(=HUF, currency in Hungary) for years. A newly published game cost 10,000 those times and in two months in decreased to 8,000 HUF. That is my problem is that their game is not advanced with a blip than the others.

I would think that having bloom in an RTS would be intensely annoying. Especially when used so over-excessively as in that apparent screenshot.

I agree, its overdone, but thats something easy to change, just a number.
Its not like they need to rebuild the entire engine :P
-
I think it's turned up for obsfuscation purposes.... i.e. to make the graphics look more detailed than they really are by stopping you getting a clear look at them.

red x?

All I have to say is that the visual quality is amazing.........
-
Holy...:eek2:
I have to say, that looks great. Nice pics, man.
-
:wtf: at the scale of people to buildings still.
-
Its way better than in most RTS games. Yeah its not perfect, but the fact that almost no strategy games has the correct scale probably means that its not workable or detracts from gameplay. I'm not really too picky, I mean look at Starcraft.
-
It certainly looks good.
-
Jesus Christ you're alive...
:wtf:
-
AOE 3 uses Havoc btw
-
Ground Control 2 has proper scaling among all the units and structures as far as I can tell, plus it looks to be at the very least on a par with AOE3 graphically.
