Post by: TrashMan on December 11, 2004, 06:45:41 pm
Remeber this guy?
Well, I have two version of it. Teh firtst one sux (geometry errors), the secons one id better but has too much wasted polys nad could be better.

SO I did the third....
The Assault Carrier (Lancer, Cavalier...whatever...)

Now this is an excellent model. The two arms in front could use some more detail, they are still to blocky, but besides this

BTW, I think it is time for you deleting the "low poly model King" from your signature, guess you have raised over this title, don't you think, escpecially after seeing your latest highpoly models :)

LOL...right...gotta edit that..

I'm currently in the process of texturing it...GOD! It's so hard to find good textures...
I spent hours on the net looking for a few good ones.. 90% were pure crpa, the very few good ones were for SALE???:wtf:

Looks like I'll have to use standard FS2 textures...

Boxy. I like the idea tho. If you used Max I'd suggest you chamfer a fair few edges. But you don't. So I won't. :nervous:

Well, it certainly is flat. Although I assume it'll look meaner with textures.

i know you can do it in TS6, i'm not sure about 5.

Trashman: make your own textures.

It's Terran, isn't it? Terran ships are supposed to be blocky.

If you don't make your own, why not be creative with textures from other games you OWN?  I got one masive library with folders from A2 all the way to KA, SFC, BC and dozens of minor games most of you have forgotten or never played... (any sci-fi). Sometimes after flipping through then for hours I find the perfect one for a model I'm looking at . I just don't know how to apply them yet (I do simple change outs normally)...

Oh and BTW is it's alright I want to use the Lancer (original) as a EDF ship in my fanfic on spacebattles.com, Earth needs some of their ownships now that SDF-3 has opened their eyes to possible "hostile visiors" in the future possibly...

Aldo, did you make the SOC Segomo? I'd like to use that as well (it's one of my favorite battleships(destroyer?) of all time for FS2.

Use the old Lancer as you wish GRG...
No, I didn't make the Segomo..

And yes, it is terran, thus the blockiness.... The ship itself isn't big...around 1200m max.. Designed for speed and fightercapacity, has little in terms of armor and weaponry.

there's boxy in cool, asthetic style and boxy, not enough polys style.

how many polys would you want?

what would be your limit for vessel of such size?

if it's a carrier, then 3000 or so should do it.

That thing looks like a cross between the USS Defiant and the Millennium Falcon with some naval battleship architecture thrown in to boot. Great job.

3000 polys? Without turrets? For a ship half the size of a destroyer?

A bit much if you ask me...most people don't have powerfull PC's, so I think 2000-2500 should be enough...

Whao someone dug up that old thing from my older files...and it looks good...for a Lego model ^_^
Quite some good improvements you have given to it since the last time I have seen it/given it away.

Lars, have you forgiven me yet for what I did to the Lancer? All I can say in my defence was at the time the model was mapped to take only 3 textues (left/right halves and the bridge)... I knew it was a mistake right after I posted the image and promptly deleted it... Although it may exist on a freeweb's site still... (must go search for it now...)
If I find it I may link to it (for the strong of heart to view as to what NOT to do!).

BTW I found an old pic of the Vandal fighter on my hard drive. God I commited such atrocities! It amazes me you ever let me play with your toys again! ;)

I have gotten better... I think,  :nervous:

[EDIT]  I found it (sorta)
http://www.freewebs.com/stardragon/visuallogdatabase.htm

I managed to delete all references of the picture that only could be described as, "It's looking at me, those EYES!" as you can see that was my SECOND attempt at finding a decent texture scheme with only 3 map slots available... (not bad I think)  :D

@Robo
No I haven't forgotten about that Lancer you made out of the original model.
About the Vandal..what model was that...I can only remeber that it is also based on something out of Lego ^_^

@Roanoke
What do you mean the Lego model or the dropped stuff I made?

both! LOL, the model dump please (that is what you meant, right ?)

I don't know if the modeldump is still online...someone else uploaded it quite long ago...about a year or two.

If you send me an PM with your email I could send you the dump again...but beware that its realy old and has lots of errors (modelwise)

Your model design was good as allways, but there were just to many intersecting polys...that's why I had to do the ship from scratch..and while I was at it, I made a "few" changes...
