Very interesting concept. Though I'm sure other countries would object.
-
No bloody wonder.....especially as there's a hint that the US may disrupt / jam the Galileo (GPS replacement) system being launched by the EU anyways.
With China in particular pushing into space, you'd be looking at a very dodgy situation.......
-
You can't spell "hegemony" without "domination and militariztion of space".
...well, maybe you can, but my point stands.
-
Yeah, I can't imagine that the rest of the world would be happy if the US really put a program like that in orbit.

Dear oh dear....
It's pathetic the lengths some people will go to, I wonder if this is what America had in mind for the new European GPS system. It's going to be difficult with Russia and China throwing a hand-in, but if they could make it look like an engineering fault.....
-
We will take over the world, or bring it spiraling down in flames with us.
One way or the other.
-
Wee! Space war! It won't be long until we have a unification war, then find another sentient species and engage into a bloody 14-year war with them...
-
Though, after a while, we get bored with that and start shooting at everyone!. As usual. ;)
-
USA is going too far already, and that is bush fault. And now they want start Arm race in space, wich this situiton goes in time if they do that anti-satellite.
We will take over the world
Usa won't control world ever, they can try but they will fail
-
It's really polarizing into 'the world vs the US' now, isn't it?
I mean, we're suppossed to have this so-called special relationship and I doubt the majority of UK voters would actually support 90% of US policy or politics if given the choice.
-
Space should not be used as a warzone unless it is against the Shivans. :p
-
Oh, and apparently the US has not ruled out shooting down neutral sattelites if they are being used by a hostile nation during a war; http://www.theregister.co.uk/2004/10/01/usaf_plans_space_wars/
-
Well, as soon as someone (say, the United States) starts to put weapons on orbit, some other nation (like, for example, China) may just launch a scatter bomb (lots and lots of ball bearings, for example) and deny orbital space for everyone, and the game will be over. And we'll lose all satellite based communications too.

hmm, not a bad idea at all.
*goes to make plans*

Who bets that the next move will be the establishment of an outpost on moon?
-
No! that will never happen! I do not have a dark-side base already! Lies! :nervous:

Your leccy bill must be enormous...........
-
There is not a huge solar array on the light side.....
-
Isn't there some treaty that bans the militarization of space? Something to do with the anti-nuke treaties? Or am I making it up....?
-
Yes, there are a couple of treaties made in the cold war, but at the same time there isn't another superpower capable of enforcing the respect of them....
-
My giant laser array will enforce the treaty.... if it indeed exists, which it does not....
-
Hmmph. "Respect" isn't a word that Americans understand. Or if they do, they don't seem to care. We need to dangle a couple of Tridents under their noses and say "listen, pal - enough of your bull****. Stop ****ing about." If Blair gets kicked out next year, it might start to happen, but until then, there's no chance....
-
Show me something worthy of respect, and I'll respect it. This whole article is speculation. I don't see a shred of evidence anywhere. For all the hard evidence you can provide, this could be about Global Hawk UAVs or the regular KH-series satellites.
As for your Tritons, guess who made them. Yeah. Us. And we've got a lot more of them then you do. More to the point, nobody in their right mind waves nuclear weapons about threateningly, because there is no better way to turn world opinion against you rapidly.
-
yeah, nukes seem to be taboo these days, just wait iran will set one off somewhere and the world will be over

Sort of like low-yield bunker buster nukes?
-
Yeah, like that. "useable" nukes?
-
There's a fairly good chance the US and Russia may be entering another arms race at this point, as shown by the anti-missile platform vs. solid state rocket debacle...
-
Wouldn't that be the US and China? Even under Commisar Putin, aren't the Russians still having money problems?
-
It's Comrade Putin, plutocratic capitilist pig. And why would you need money if you are the great and powerful representative of the working class?
On a more serious note, they're upgrading their nuclear cache. Possibly through the money they're getting from selling arms to China.
-
Russian nuclear arsenal is mostly pointed to china, which represent a bigger threat for them...
I think putin is subrler than thinking to start a second cold war...
That will most likely be between US and china, with Putin making his gains from a neutral position...
-

I'm scared. Really, I am.

 Mmmmm, smell the irony....
As for a Chinese - US cold war, it won't happen. Their economies are far too closely linked. Anyway, the days of inter-state rivalry are pretty much over. You don't get proper wars any more....

I think the main worry for the Russians would be if the Chinese decided they needed a wee bit more living space to their north.....

I'am not sure that's case anymore

good thing we have a political scientist among us. I don't suppose you'd be so kind as to share your findings with us?
-
There is the fact that Russias has been selling arms to China, which may imply a warming of relations.
-
Back on topic.....

Update.... looks like an awful lot of bees a-buzzing over that comment, which implies truth.
Edit : Throwing money and resources at something that isn't working is a danger to National Security.....
: looks at Iraq :
Ok, Mr Senator, now one plus one is......

Uhm, the circle is closing ina round Russia, and China has nothing to do with it. The US is peeling off the layers. Georgia, Ukraine, Afghanistan, Serbia. Romania also has a mini-Ukraine thing going on right now. And every country falls to Western influence conveniently has US military bases put in.
I wouldn't be surprised if the Serbia/Georgia/Uklraine template was tried in Russia itself within the next few years.

Guess who Germany's largest trading partners in 1914, 1939 and 1941 were.
Answer: France, France and Russia, respectively.
Don't bet on trade keeping two nations at peace.
-
Actually, it's usually easier to incite people to hate those you have a lucrative trade with, especially if the government is taxing the life out of imports.
The average punter find's it easier to get their head around the idea it is the importing country that is being greedy rather than making up for a massive import tax.

lol, when i first saw that ipcture i didnt notice it was a medal, i thaught it was a pair of shears.
