Title: Movies won't work in FS2 (I searched for other threads first. Don't kill me!)
Post by: ATacoGuy on December 14, 2004, 02:26:17 pm
Edit: I've followed karajorma's advice and d/led FS2_Open, which has spawned a new problem. Thx to Japong, karajorma, Corsair, and Tnn for helping me out on this one. Don't want to waste anymore of anyone's time on this problem, which will no longer be an issue if I can get FSO installed, but check out my other thread if you know anything about FS2_Open debugger spews (or FSO CTDs in general).

Welcome to the HLPBB.

I'm not sure myself, but I think this topic has been covered numerous times on these boards, so trying a search for "movies" or "cutscenes" would probably get you the quickest results.

Just searched the topic "mve" and "cutscene", and came up with a few hits. There was one thread that was pretty close to what I was looking for, but no one proposed a definitive solution. Most of the threads had to do with enabling cutscenes in FSO, not in the retail version.  Sorry to ask a question similar to what you guys've been hearing for a couple years now. I just haven't been able to find a solution for my particular situation.

Two ideas.

1) Try copying the movies to data\movies.

2) If that doesn't work. What you may need is a no CD patch. Follow the link in my sig to the HotU page of my FAQ and you should find a link to one.

And if you've got the machine to handle it you should use FS2_Open. It's much better than retail :)

Welcome to HLP!
Exits are to the rear and left, in case of emergency shotguns are located under the seats. Knife fights are strictly prohibited in favor of more interesting 35mm mortar duels and machete jello wrestling. Heavy weaponry, such as plasma rifles, are located in the weapons lockers, but these can only be unlocked by an admin or a Volitioner. The giant rats in the barracks are not for eating. If you happen to come across a Shivan in the air ducts, don't worry, it's probably just Carl. Toss him your lunch (or your lunch money) and he'll go away. If he doesn't... pray. That will be all, we hope you will enjoy your stay.

Like Japong said, run a search...I'm pretty sure I remember someone asking about this a while ago. IIRC, you may not be able to play the movies ingame if you've got the downloaded version, but I could be wrong.

Thx for the welcome and the advice. I'll get back to you guys on whether this stuff worked.

You cannot run .mve movies (in-game) from HDrive, unless using a No-CD patch (avail. for FS2 V1.0 only!)

If those movies are in .avi format, put them in FS2 dir, then use FSO to play game, you'll see them.

Ummm. No. Follow the trail I mentioned earlier (I'd post a direct link but that would get me in trouble) and you'll find a version for v1.2
