I've finally discovered a quick, fairly painless way to create beams without 3D modelling software or any overly complicated procedures. And it looks fantastic, compared to my previous efforts (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/smile.gif)

Well it's not really special or anything, but it no longer relies on estimations - it's an exact, mathematical way to render them (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/smile.gif)

looks like he's useing some sort of post procecing thing, me I just make a few cylinders and give them progresivly whiter textures as they get smaller and give them erroded transperency and translucent reflectence, and the same for the little ball at the begening just with spheres,

Here's another one, this time Shivan. You can see I went to the obvious choice in Shivan beam supremacy (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/wink.gif) In hindsight, I think I should have made the beams on this one bigger.

Setekh, in the post 12 posts above this on where you did the Shivan beams, did you use bumpmap on the Sathanas? The texture looks sharp and clear.
