In order to lighten up the mood from the sometimes heated discussions, I present to you the pet thread :D
This little fellow came to us a week ago. The cutest thing I've ever seen

Say hello to my little friend, GIZMO!
In case your wondering, he's a ferret.
-
Thunder: for the first few seconds, I kind of thought that was a hippo or something. Wierd angle.
oh and, 2 cats (used to be 3, and for a brief while it used to be 15+)

:D
-
No pets, although I get along with animals fairly well. Cats seem to love me - they spend almost all the time I'm around them attempting to get my attention.
-
no, that's just cats doing what they do. One mode is "attention whore" and the other is "I sleep now", with occasional breaks for food.
-
Got a Bordeaux Dog, 2 cats and a bird (cockatiel) :D
I'll try to get a picture online :)
-
My little fatty catty :D

Ma dog and one of my cats;

Max and Garfield :D The other cat is the same as this one only gray and her name is 'Destiny'. Couldn't find a bigger picture :( I probably deleted that one and forgot to delete the thumbnail :p

I had a Golden Hamster a few times. They are great pets...usually very friendly (except when you wake them up), they like to run alot...and chew on the cages (helps with their teeth). Problem is that their nocturnal so you sometimes rarely see them. Especially once they are a year or a bit old they start to sleep in more. Other problem is that they aren't known for lasting very long. Longest I saw one live was about 2 and a half years. But they are good little guys...

Yeah, it's a bit annoying as he usually wakes up around 9-10pm. But we still have great time with him :D A pretty ideal pet for a family who has never had a pet before, like us.
Oh, and Primus. Is your cat really named Viljo? Funny, as our hamster is Vilho :D
-
We've got a couple of fish at the moment. They're doing quite well for goldfish, as they must be about 5 years old by now.
Used to have a cat, Zak. Poor little bugger got feline leukemia though. :(

I'll try to snap my cat if and when the lazy sod wakes up

Yep....same with my family when we had them. We were new to pets...was going to get Goldfish but friends of ours had hamster babies offered up so we went that route (got 2 of them actually).
They are pretty low maintenence too. Just make sure their food bowl is full and their water is changed every few days and things are good. They don't generally overeat...they just stuff everything in their cheeks for later.
Worst bit is cleaning the cage every week.
Could be worse.

Sheba. The spoiled little daddy's girl. (My dad, not me :p) I should get a better picture of her some day, but this is the cutest. :p
White German Shepard. American Kennel Society certified. She's the stubby legged daughter of two show dogs...

****ing Cockatiels. Vicious, vicious little monsters. I had one. We called it Snap, because even months after we got him, he'd try to take a piece of our fingers off if we pet him. He flew out a window after 4 months.
We used to have a dog named Taz. A Doberman Pincher. He strangled himself with his leash by chasing a squirrl round an round a tree.
I used to have a baby Iguana. He died by an immense mite infestation that wouldn't go away.
The best Pet I ever had was a 3 year old, 4 foot Peruvian Horned Iguana. He didn't die, we had to give him away when we moved to Okinawa (Air Force Family, waddya gonna do?).

Err, no - that's definitely a Blueish German Shephard - the tone in her hair is a dead giveaway. This would be a WGS:

WTF? They are almost the most docile birds around. Easiest to tame. It took me only 2 weeks to tame it. Now it flies onto my shoulder and even shouts it's own name :D
You have to get it when it's younger then 6-9 months though or it will have a will of it's own by then :D
And these birds get ~15 years old :p I'm stuck with him for another 14 years :D
-
Have you taught it to dance yet? They're so cute when they do that :D
-
LOL Sandwich :D :D :D
Dark4ce: dude, you have a ferret! that's awesome! i'll own a ferret one day.
Raa: beautiful dog!
Tiara: i had a friend in South Africa whos mom used to have dozens of those things... she raised other birds too, kind of like a hobby. they had a big enclosure in the back yard, but a lot of the cockatiels and a parrot or two used to be free to wander round the house. crazy birds, always bit me.

Huh. Didn't know that. We got the bird when he was about 3-4 years old. Maybe that's why he was so aggressive.
Still, can't say I liked the fact that he left white/brown streaks all over the walls/doors.
Big Lizards are the best pet though. They look like they're high, most of the time, and they do some wierd **** when they look at a mirror .
-

This is Nadine, left, and Kimberly, right.
Sadly, Nadine died 2 weeks later. :(
...So I bought Cheryl (pictured right, below), and I was happy again.
Notice how much of the plant they've munched. I feed them, honest. And I just changed the water, so the tanks a bit wet.

And for those of you wondering, they are named after the respective members of girls aloud. The likeness is astounding.

I know far too much about girls aloud.

If the bird hasn't been around a single person in it's first year (maybe switched between many owners or just a previous owner who didn't spend any time with the bird), it will be aggressive towards Humans. You would be too if you were passed around or neglected ;)

What the...? Never had that problem. The floor though, is another issue :p
-
Ow, Pete, get a bigger bowl for your fishies! I'm serious. Smaller bowl/aquarium usually means shorter lifespan. Also, square tanks are preffered. ~30/40 gallon tank per 2 fishies (20 for 1) for the optimal conditions.
Ow... And a new plant! ;)
-
Yeah, one of his favorite things to do was park himself on a door ledge or nook near the ceiling while screaming. Then it's "bomb's Away!"

lol... Mine just opens his beak slightly, tilts his head and then i hear a small *tick* on the floor :p But not even that often. i kinda taught him to do it in his cage :p

Well i used to have tropical fish in a 24x12x12 inch tank, but couldnt be assed taking it to university with me.
The current tank is certainly bigger than it looks... but that is just an effect of the optics of a round tank of water. Hmmm.
Edit: did you edit that or am i insane?
20L per fish? Are you nuts!? They aren't sharks you know. They are about 7cm long, at the most.

Eh, that tank then only is ~12 US gallons assuming a cylindrical shape. Way too small for 2 goldfishies.
It needs to be at least 2.5-3 times as big to be adequate.
;)

Not liters, gallons. 1 gallon is ~3.8 liters. ;)
And fishies need room too. How would you like to be stuck in a 3x3 room for the rest of your natural life with an identical twin? :p
-
I have a very cute little puppy. She's a one-year-old labradoodle.

But I don't have a five second memory. Its an 8 litre tank, there must be atleast 7.9L of unexplored water for them to enjoy!

Ultimately they seem happy and healthy enough, well except for Nadine but i think my flatmate killed her.

Thats a happy fish and you knows it.
Edit: actually they're memory is probably about 24 hours, they seem to recognise me / feeding time.
-
IIRC for (tropical) fish you need about 1 gallon of water per inch of fish.

No, I'm pretty sure you were right. Goldfish have a Memory span of 5-10 seconds, IIRC.
-
Not allowed pets in my apartment.
I must have a ferret. Might get one if I ever get my own place.
-
Ferrets can be cool and cuddly. We had two. Bandit and Sweatpea. Just watch them close when they're out of their cages. They LOVE to **** in corners. Every. Single. Time you let them out. It's like they hold it in and wait to be set free...or hold just enough after going into their litterbox to go anyway, thusly fooling you. <<; Aside from that, not too bad. They love to swim! It's cute.

I found a pic of my hedgehog
(http://uploads.savefile.com/users/uploads/joe.jpg)
Isn't she cute?
-
If I could see the picture I could answer that...
-
hahaha that's awesome
that's like, the typical, stereotypical hedgehog, that you think of when someone says "hedgehog"
-
hehe, it's even smiling. It's like the ones from the safe road crossing ads...
-
haha for real.
or the hedgehogs in childrens books and animated movies and stuff.

That's what would have come to my mind first, not raod safety signs.
-
The adverts for road safety in the UK feature animated hedgehogs.
-
yeah i figured they did
but we can just relate better to this :D
-
The hedgehog is just cute, let's leave it at that.

yeah yeah, I'm bringing it back from the dead. But I just got a digital camera, and finally have some pictures of my cats.
So, I present:

Exhibit one: Punk. This is my g/f's 9 month old tom-cat who is here with us. Cute but a tad bit fat/dumb. Body like jello, brains to match.
Exhibit two: Kabuki. 4 or 5 year old female back on my parent's farm. My favorite little predator. This cat has massacred wild tom-cats on a whim. :D
