Good for them.
-
I hate EA.
-
Well Ubi soft was turning to another EA anyway, (Rainbow 4 looks like **** and GR2 is bad.
I hate EA
-
Looks like EA are trying to take over the world like M$ :mad2:
-
:hopping: :hopping:
Greedy corporate monkey ****ers!
They're going to swallow the gaming industry, then **** it out as a sad shadow of its former self.
-
I wonder why they stopped at 20%.
-
anitrust laws maybe?
They've aquired two big game engine companies recently, and are making a bid for DICE (the Battlefield series). Maybe they just ran out of money for the time being.
-
Probably if they buy above a certain percentage they have to make a takeover bid... I remember a similar issue over the (aborted) Glazer takeover of Man Utd; if he bought 30% of shares he was duty bound to make a proper takeover offer. (I don't know why......)

They tried already buy it, but share holders refused sell Dice but after this they mighty try again.
they did buy only 20%, I think is because share holders didn't want sell whole company. Or they are planning buy it in pieces
-
I hate them both so I really couldn't give a flying f**k. :blah:
-
nah, Ubi was/is good. They generally produce quality games, and are nowhere near as evil as EA. They even support some risky/innovative games, which seems to be getting rarer and rarer these days.
IHMO, they're one of the better publishers around.
-
Just look at Burnout 2 vs 3 to see how EA can **** up even the best of games
(B3 is still great fun, but the added in interface bits and obtrusive EA sports logos, or the inability to turn off all the music tracks bar the 3 decent ones, threaten to wreck the fun of the game... basically the ea presentation gubbins threaten to completely wreck the games accessibility and fun)

Ubi Soft says Electronic Arts stake building is hostile!!

****ing EA
-
Not to mention they bought the NFL Football games. Now you have to make up your own names or you are violating copyright.
Hungry EA ****ers...
-
Medal of Honor rocks. EA will pwn j00 all.
-
UbiSoft was good...but there's been problems recently.
We'll see if they can pull out of their current nosedive.

What I expected from mindless gaming drones. The Medal of Honor series is beginning to get milked as much as possible...
-
EA's becoming worse than microsoft in their policies by the looks of it.
-
I just realized that i don't have any games by EA or Ubisoft...
-
We should petition for a disolvement on EA on the reason that they suck balls, cept for EA Sports, leave them.
-
Sports games should die! Want to play sports? Go outside! Wan't to blast aliens? Sit your ass at your computer!

You don't have any of the Myst series? Heathen! :p As long as EA keeps their grubby fingers away from Cyan's property, I don't really care.
-
Freakish nightmare creatures. May they die. I bought C&C Generals. I'm never buying another EA game again.
-
If they bugger up the Myst series because of this...

true, true.
well, since Westwood was enveloped by EA, it was pretty much the end of C&C as we know it..
however, 20% of Ubisoft is not enough for them to actually take the reigns over Ubi's direction as a dev/publisher. That said, if EA actually does become as big as i fear it might, if it ever goes down, it's gonna take a lot of companies with it..

True, but they can do minimal controlling and that is enough do some harm it's rumoured that EA wanted buy 20% because of Ubisoft's Sport games (NFL&NBA hoops ? )

Well that is mostly because Ubisoft's games don't sell enough, and they don't hype games like EA do
PoP, BG&E, SC, RA and GR are all top notch series but they don't sell so much
-
Just imagine IL-2 with a licensed Linkin Park* soundtrack and 'arcade' controls and you can see the effects of an EA takeover.......

I would go burn EA HQ because of that

A valid point can be read here. I say this 20 % is only the beginning, they will take over more.
I am not particularly interested in this EA business, I did not like any of their action games like MoHAA or CoD; they simple did not fit my quaker-style. I know and understand that many, many people love those games. I am not among them.
What I liked in EA was their World Cup 98(soccer). No other members of the FIFA series could stick me behind the keyboard for longer, maybe FIFA97's indoor matches could competite. On a side note, that may be because I have always prefered national football to club football.

that's true, now, part of EA's "success" is Maxis, another, would be the somewhat lackluster sports games (IMO) that just have sharper graphics, but don't overall improve on the core gameplay itself.
all in all, i can see this coming to a point where there will be two big names duking it out for gaming supremecy, EA, and Microsoft Games Studios.

On the other side, imagine if Konami had the Fifa license for Pro-Evo.........
NB: CoD wasn't EA (Activision, I think); it was made by former employees of the company that did make MoH - it's maybe worth noting the dip in quality that series has suffered since, and also maybe worth observing the recent furore about EA work practices.

In the games industry, EA are probably already as powerful as MS are in the Os industry.

that wont happen I think, atleast MS would not be happy. Because it would be potential threat to MS in market

It's not that easy because it would be "Hostile" takeover, so decision would made in court and it's takes years. And i'am sure that UBI share holders don't sell ubi to EA.
-
run like hell if MS buy EA :p
-
lol.
EA sports have generated some good games. But I suspect the cause for their survival is not because they are super great games, but because sports games are pre-defined. People know and can expect what they are going to get.
Plus most of the gameplay that is in Sports game is the same repetive crap over and over again. But thats what sports are, the exact same scenario with different stats and tactics.
More or less anyway.
Just about all of EA games fall under the same description these days though.
Visually appealing, fun for a few minutes, poor longetivity.
Mind, gamers expectations are getting bigger and bigger each year which does'nt help.
Personally I long for a game with a quality storyline that is fun to play.
Halo, and Halo2 fit these well, and while fun, and have decent longetivity. Halo2 still is Halo, and it does still have the general Halo feel. So being a sequel it still feels like I've been playing the game for a number of years already.
Half Life 2 - storyline was a letdown. Plain and simple.
I've seen Vamp Bloodlines at a friends and will prob pick that up some day, it looks alright and has enough depth to keep one occupied.
But yes.
EA is trying to pump out games like a product - create visual appeal, simpe gameplay, release. Improve on features release.
I just think this is wrong. Games are a form of entertainment.
It's more of a service than a product. Each experience should be entertaining.
Knowing these things, and doing are still difficult things to do. But I guess it seperate the great developers from the average ones.
-
MS > EA at this point.
Now, if MS somehow revived a dead game, and allowed a dedicated team of coders and other people who loved that game to work on a possible sequel it till it was 'just' right like they did the Original Halo and Halo 2, they'd so pwn EA, it would really fricking funny.
:nervous:
errr...
