Title: Anybody missed the good old Babylon 5 battle?

I managed to find it. A bit small but viewable.

And this is what slasher beams in FreeSpace 2 should do to a ship.

I've got the slasher .avi - very impressive, but you know that FS2 doesn't allow for geo-modding as it were... it'd be great if that kind of thing could be done in a game though... some day  (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/wink.gif)

I enjoyed the battle in "In between darkness and light" better, that was one of the coolest battles.

geomodable ships... why subojects wouldn't work for that? I mean, create the hull of the capship with several subojects (like plates or something like this), under them put a model of the ship that looks the way the ship would look just before it's destroyed, and that would work, no? I thought about the Bodicea, and the model looks right, without any gfx bug, so...

Just think about the face count of such a model. You would need several layers of subobjects to get the right effect.

well, it would have, let be think about it for a minut... ok, I think I can manage to make a model of that kind of ships with less than two times the number of polys of a "usual" model. I don't really have time to try this out anyway, but maybe some day I will. Anyway, poly count isn't really a drawback anymore, this pb is, I think, outdated. As long as you can import the model into fs2, now the video cards and processors are strong enough to handle high poly models.

Don't get stuck in a 'requires FS2' mindset.   (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/wink.gif)
