I've heard it mentioned repeatedly, mostly with the addition of "Kazan's" but a search failed to turn up an links or attachments...does it still exist?
-
Yeah...I want to know too..
and I allso want to know a few more things:
1. Where did those kick-ass backgrounds dissapear to? I can't download them. Fileplanet sezthat the file could not be found..
2. How to make an icon part invisible? So far I thought that everything completely green is considered invisible, but seems I was wrong..
-
I doubt it'd be really useful, since a random generated background will never reach the beatuy of a player setup background since it'll mostly clutter the screen with nebulas without any pattern, plus it can't orient planets correctly to the sun....etc..
-
Damn....
and what about 1&2?
-
I don't really care if it's not that useful...I'll tinker with the background myself anyways, I just can't work from a blank canvas.
-
Ugh..where can I get those super backgrounds I've been seing on many screenshots?
-
don't you hate it when you ask for something and someone says "you don't want that"
-
Search for Kazan's tools with Google. It is called Mission Background Utility.

By making 'em yourself.....or getting someone to do it for ya :P
-
You can use this tool well, you only have to modify some included txts, including what backgrounds should the programme randomize between, how many nebula you want. You can also specify what maximal and minimal scaling limits you want.
-
No, no, no!
Not the tool, I'm looking for those really cool BACKGROUND NEBULAS.... Lightspeeds stuff...
Say, is that included in the latest VP?
-
Maybe try Hades Combine?
http://www.hades-combine.com
Or even better, there is a link for Miliways in Lightspeed's signature. Click on it and you will get there.

It's useful if you want a very quick background for screenshots, that's about it IMO (i.e. if you don't want a plain black background)

I have MBU and will be happy to share it. actually i like it, all it does is my nebulas, i still p;lace the planets and the stars. it makes it good, because i use the same nebula for each system, but then change the planets by mission in each system. i am actually quite happy with the background generator.
If anyone wants it, PM me and we can work out the details.
-
*cough*chokes on a clutter ball*cough*
seriously though... its much prettier to create your own backgrounds... if you know how to do it that is...
only scaling currently bugs me...
i wonder whatever happened to that "Vlanetar" mod...
i got some file and tables on my old pc from it... so if someone is interested...
Vlanetar is not my work. I repeat : Vlanetar is *NOT* my work...

Creating backgrounds is easy. Scaling is simple stuff. just make sure if you scale big you divide it. It's like with anything in the background. If you use mbu and don't like the result, you can always modify it. The only thing is..."pretty" is opinion, not fact, and something should never discounted due to opinion. In the end, when we build a mission, we make it pretty, to our standards, and everyone playing it gets to deal with what we think is pretty. Case in point.....i love this shot....and it is "in mission" i am sure that aldo remembers it.
It is vanilla fs2, from "the time before SCP". It is also low res, on a low end machine. But that is an easy example of what you can do with scaling and orientation.
-
That reminds me of a PXO mission, where you had to investigate the Ross 128 system. You started approaching towards a Faustus, which later blew up and tons of Shivans started to jump in. You had a Hecate as reinforcements. At the end of the mission you faced a Sathanas.
It had an extensively bad background set, it looked like very similiar to what you have posted.
-
I like that bad background.....lol
-
Google search turns up only Kazan's SourceForge page...and no downloadables.
-
You can find it here (http://hades-combine.com/v-web/portal/73/modules.php?name=Downloads&d_op=viewdownloaddetails&lid=108&ttitle=Alliance_Productions_Freespace_2_Kit) at Hades Combine (http://www.hades-combine.com)

The latest mediaVP has his version of the retail nebulas, yes.
There was an mv_nebulae some time back, but it was removed because none of the nebulas were part of retail FS2. That has Lightspeed's pre-retail nebulas, if he doesn't still have them up for download somewhere.
-
yeah, both are.
-
The only thing I found was
Now I know I've see screenshots with nebulas that looked like the art from jdictanlge and some others. Those were no normal nebulas - that was simply awensome!
I have to find a screenie smehwere!

Now those nebulas are what i'm looking for!

*is half tempted to post a pic from what LS has him working on.
Errr........or maybe not :nervous:
*runs from LS
-
TrashMan did you serch in Milliways (http://www.penguinbomb.com/lightspeed/)
-
There's a Retail Nebula Patch file....Is that it?
-
no, no. Its all the new background stuff from LS. Look for background nebula set under the WIP section.
-
Under work in progress there is only the shinemaps and glowmaps..nothing else.
I've searched Millways from top to bottom, but haven't found those nebula backgrounds...
-
if you still looking for them here are set 3 (http://mysite.wanadoo-members.co.uk/sbre/stl/FS2_Nebula_Backgrounds3.zip) and 6 (http://mysite.wanadoo-members.co.uk/sbre/stl/FS2_Nebula_Backgrounds6.zip)

Thanx man!
