Title: Babylon 5 Project
Post by: NeoHunter on March 30, 2001, 06:46:00 pm
I just been to the Babylon Project web site and I must say that this project rocks! (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/smile.gif)

I was wondering. Is this project going to be as accurate as the Babylon 5 series? Like is the Vree Xill-class cruiser saucer going to have those really fast firing laser cannons? And will the player be able to fly the WhiteStar or it wil be just another cruiser but very much faster?

I also can't wait to see the Warlock-class destroyer in action!! (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/smile.gif)

Oh yeah. I was browsing through your list of ships you all intend to make and I stumbled across the BlueStar entry. What's a BlueStar?? I don't think I've seen it before or heard of it. Any pictures?

I asked this question before. There's a little bit of discussion on this thread ("http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/Forum13/HTML/000007.html"). Here's a picture Jabu was nice enough to find: (it's on that thread, too)

I've been the one makeing the whitestar, some of the early tests hav been a little discurageing seems FS don't like cruesers flighing at high speed, but well figure something out, and if your wondering I have the LOD0 geometry done, turrets done, and some preleminary texturing done.

Neo,..the Bluestar was the ship Sharidan flew in the very last episode of B5 when he went to visit major event sites before he passed on.

As far as I know that was the only time the ship was ever in the show.

Yep, that's the only time. Bluestar isn't even an official name; it doesn't have one  (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/smile.gif)

But Bluestar is an obvious name for that.

So that's a BlusStar. Thanks for the photo, Setekh!

By the way, what's so special about this BlueStar from the normal WhiteStars? Apart from the fact that its blue in colour. (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/smile.gif)

I bet the AI doesn't fly the ship very well at higher speeds, eh?  (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/smile.gif)

Can't you designate it as a fighter, but bigger? With turrets?

I think that is posssible. That might make it fly like a fighter but its a big fighter. (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/smile.gif)

How many turrets does a WhiteStar have?

Well there is a beam-type weapon and a few cannons on the ship's front side. They would probably do as primaries, though a beam primary doesn't work very well.

Geez, I've never even seen an ep of B5 before  (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/wink.gif)

I saw a few when Singapore was showing it at 12 midnight!! Argh! I hate them! (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/biggrin.gif)

Saw a few StarFury battles. I didn't get to see the really big battles.

well if you want to see what I mean, go into the TBL and change some bomber's pof file to some large capital ship, and then have it atack another capital, you thought it was bad when your wingmen hit you before, SMACK.

The AI does quite well with average speeds between 100-150 with After burns of 200... i haven't tested higher

AI does just fine at high speeds. Their only fault is that when they inevitably crash into a capship, they are a lot more likely to die...a fact that I've had a lot of fun exploiting.  (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/biggrin.gif)

While I was on the first SOC loop, mission 2, and getting tired of being plastered by hordes of Herc2s, I tried playing the mission with the Velocity Mod ("http://sushicw.homestead.com/files/freespace/VelocityModR2.zip") in the hopes that it would be easier. In retrospect, I was pleased to find out that it was probably harder.  (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/tongue.gif)
