none of them look 'freespacey' though that isn't nesisaraly a bad thing.

this for example
(http://img80.exs.cx/img80/6603/Guardian1.jpg)
is great, but it looks more homeworldy than freespacey

Don't use pure green for ship textures, though; unless this has been fixed, the engine doesn't render anything behind a pure-green texture, becuase it doesn't know the face is transparent (doesn't check the texture details), and thus it still occludes the faces behind it.

Doesn't matter; don't have that model any more.

But it was an issue when i made it (before even had tga transparency.... though it'd be redundant to fix 0,255,0 transparency after we had that, but I guess not).  So should be handy for anyone who does use said model anyways....

So it is green then...0, 255, 0...

Now for the serious question - does anyone here on the friggin forum know how to place damn insignia on ships?

EDIT: When you really think about it, threre really is no sense in setting a "terran" design. I mena, all ships in every SF show ever made were designed by terrans. Nedlees to say, since in space shape doesn't matter, I guess that humanity would have ships of all shapes and sizes...
On the other hand, I doubt a ship like a Sath wuld be estheticly pleasing....

EDIT2: I tough I asked for comment on the two ships at the bottom of that page, not at the top...

Thanks..I'l give it a try..

EDIT: DArn..doesn't work..

I added a flat face (plane) trianulated, textured with a 64x64 invisible map on 4 places on my Orion MK2 (just barely above the hull). I re-converted the ship, and in FRED replaced the texture with the GTD Excalibur nameplate (256x256 white letters on a 0,255,0 background) nad - nothing!

In-game, I can't see the letters. I don't get it! (and yes, it is a 256 colours pcx)

EDIT2:

and I meant these 2 ships:

I'm having a similar problem with 0,255,0  for my backgorund.  IT shows up as green!  It's a 8bit .pcx of the original backgorund with an uber 2048x2048 Earth over the old one and now it's fugly (the Earth is nice, but that annoying green square behind it has GOT to go!)...
