Why did they build that thing if they were only going to use it once?

What a lot of people don't realise is that the Millenium Dome was a deliberate political landmine planted by the Conservative party.
Knowing that they had no hope of winning the next election they spent £200m building a large tent in the middle of Greenwich. They don't tell anyone what they're planning to do with it only that it's something to do with the millenium.
When Labour won the election they were left in a really bad situation. If they cancelled the dome they would have been complained at for wasting £200 million of tax payers money so their only option was to press ahead with it and desperately try to come up with some use for it.
If it weren't for the fact that it cost so much money I'd applaud the Tories for it. I loved every minute of watching Tony Blair desperately trying to explain away the Dome :D
