Title: Disorders?
Post by: Andreas on December 25, 2004, 04:51:41 am
This might sound a little strange, but do you have any diagnotised disorders? And as for me, obsessive-compulsive disorder. Don't take any medications for it thought, far too costy and also rather inefficient IMO, and also, because I can very much control myself.

...What? :nervous:

I also suffer from time to time from feeling horribly dizzy, which really isn't funny at all :sigh:

No... It doesn't sound funny at all.. You sure that there are no medications that work?

And I know that medications are far too costy... Although I don't have to pay them myself... Guess I'm "lucky".....

Nothing diagnosed, but what's the difference between a "disorder" and the "normal" confusion, fear, selfishness, ignorance, intolerance, cruelty etc. we all express?
Just a matter of degree, IMO..

Very true that there; the difference isn't all that great, but I would still consider, for example OCD to be a "real" disorder, mainly because it can/does affect your life (while it may not seem much to others, it's a wholly different matter on the other side of the fence). I just made this thread mainly because of curiosity, but guess it's a whee bit too depressing for christmas?

I'm not sure, but sometimes I think I may have ADD. It's really, really, REALLY hard for me to concentrates sometimes...

Also, I suffer from the dizziness too. Not sure if this is related to that at all, but I once got out of a bath, and blacked out. Landed face-first on the floor, nearly broke my nose.

At least it is a well timed topic, as Xmas time is known to emphasise all kind of disorders ppl have (as we pack ourselves in a closed space with all our relatives, once again starting those ages old fights..).

But let's not forget the potential sunny side of it (Xmas) either :)

No diagnosed disorders here.

Although if I were to go for a psych eval, I suspect quite a bit may pop up.

I'm a self confessed sociopath with a desire to rule all mankind.

But they're not on to me yet.

I'm a paranoid scizophrenic with delusions of grandeur and occassional bouts of depression, followed by periods of anti-social and neurotic behaviour.

I'm also a compulsive liar.

Well, I'm extremly overconfident all the time, and sometimes people say I'll start muttering to myself. Oh! And I'm paranoid. :p

(those worthless fools will never discover my true plan to take over HLP...hoo...hooo....hoo-ha-ha)

But I think they lie. I don't mutter to myself.

(or...do I?)

To a shrink, everything is a disorder. People aren't machines, and there is no such thing as "normal". Human differences get treated as if they're diaseses. We used to have personalities, now we have symptoms.

But I digress.

A bit ADDish.  But I know people who are worse than I am...

Still, having done a little research and gained some perspective on it. Its not really a disorder...except in rare and extreme cases (usually ADHD - i.e. hyperactive).  Having a short attention span is likely the product of human evolution...some people are exceptional at concentration but consequently are less aware...people with a short attention span are more aware of changes to their surroundings.  For primitive humans...that means that the short attention span people will be the first ones to notice a predator sneaking up on a group.

Also, isn't SAD something you can treat by trying to get as much sunlight as possible? I'm not sure if thats true...but I thought it had to do alot with the sun (the depression becoming marked during the winter and low light levels).

[color=66ff00]Yeah, I have an annoyingly small attention span for some things, generally technical reading.

Thankfully I also have a bit of a stubborn streak which pulls me through.

One thing that's never effected by this is any hands-on activities. I tend to steam through them and stay up to the wee hours if i'm 'in the zone'.

BTW isn't SAD Seasonal Adjustive Disorder? Read that somewhere.

Supposedly, thats why its prevelant in places like alaska and canada and other farther north regions... You can be SAD for any one of the seasons though, but Winter is by far the most common...

I haven't heard of it... They probably mean the same thing essentially, since your Affect is your mood and stuff...
