Did a search, didn't find an answer... So...
How long it takes to build ships? From fighter to destroyer?
It took 20 years to build the Colossus, right? But wasn't there at the time resource shortage (or somethin') that made it more difficult to construct it? So it would take less time now to build one.
-
I think an Orion/Hecate takes a 1 year of construction...
a fighter would takes...say a week...or more....
and a bomber two weeks...
what about the bombs and missiles???
What are the Major industrial hubs in the GTVA?...Surely the vasudan have a greater production than terrans overall...
-
Yeah but the vasudans like to gold plate their ships so that kinda balances the fleets out

Major Hubs: Delta Serpentis, Beta Aquilae, Capella (was), Vasuda Prime, Vega
Why do you think Vasudans have a greater production than terrans? Sure they're stronger but it would all be done with robots

Shouldn't Vega be in that list too?

noo way..it must be more than 3-4 years. Look:
Iceni was made when NTF Rebelion was started it was 16 months. Soo normal corvetts wihout new technologys of Iceni could be construct in one year.
Cruisers..i say half year.
Fighters just like in ours XXI century car factories
-
fighters and bombers roll off an asembally line. small criusers maybe 3 months tops. vetts about the same time as a modern aircraft carrier (zero g construction might speed it up abit) ships in the 1-2 km range probibly take 2-3 years. this is consistant with the build time of the collossus, probibly uses the same amount of materials as about 6 hecates.

Interesting thread...
If the Colossus took 20 years to complete, then mathematically and Orion should take 7-8 years, if we regard the length of the two ships and their weaponry. I do not think, by the way that building a Colossus-sized ship takes more than five years to complete.

It should be.

Actually I'd say volume is a more important factor than length and if 12 Lucifer class destroyers can fit in its massive hull then that works out as 1-2 years for an Orion.
As for the massive build time the Colossus was built while the GTVA was still recovering from the loss of Earth and Vasuda Prime. It was also built in secret which undoubtably would have lengthened the build time.
-
Agreed....
I would say 5-6 years for a Colossus under normal circumstances..TOPS...
-
It took 20 years to build the Colossus from design to completion, including the construction of the facilities to assemble it and development of all the necessary technologies (beam cannons especially) that it would use. An already completed destroyer design should take far less time to build.
-
So... a second colossus wouldn't take 20 years, unless the construction facilities were disassembled, and the data lost? ;)

5-6 years yes, but no way 5-6 tops. I'd say probably 6 years to build a collie
Also in adition to already having the faciliteis theres somthing else that works in another way. the GTVA probably didnt expect to have to build another one so the collie could use verrey priopetary (non-standerdised) parts
-
Colossus took 20 years. Everything else takes 15 days. Duuuuuh.
-
of course noone knows how effietient a zero g shipyard operates. it could be a hinderance as much as an advantage.
-
-plus, beam cannons and stuff were still new and no doubt caused problems with the colossus. they were still just learning the new techs.
i would guess a couple days for a fighter/bomber, a couple months for cruisers (3-4) maybe 3/4 of a year for corvettes (theyre packed tight with coolio technology!) and a year or 2 for destroyers.
weapons... *snickeR* missiles probably roll off the assembly lines hundreds at a time every MINUTE... well, like, hornets anyway. a helios probably takes longer than a fighter (you have to be careful so it dont detonate accidentally... failsafes only work SO well)
-
The longest part of making a helios is probably producing the antimatter. Ofcourse, i guess using photon beam cannons speeds this up a tad.
-
fighters are probibly turned out much faster than that, at a rate of several a day.
-
what about tempests? how long you think those take?
-
two seconds.
-
Hahahah, that weas so funny and i dont know why.
-
I think heloids and such, took longer to make. Thats why in most missions their always low on them and limited. Why? One mistake and boom, in the construction yard, which would hinder further production.
Colossos construct. They probably had to smuggle it in. Plus hide it, you know how big that thign was?! So that took some work.
-
The Colossus wasn't built in secret! Khonsu II announced the plans at a big gathering or festival or something!

To the GTVA security council IIRC. Which would probably be able to preserve a degree of public - if maybe not military - secrecy.

remember that collosus intro animation was clasified level sigma or something
-
Eh, i dont know anymore, but yes, was classified.
The V. empire probaby lied to the people. Bah. If its classified for military personel to know about it, the public would just know 'command building a new big ship' the end. So they woudlent even Guess on how big. So yes i beleive in secert. Everytihng else but 'we building a new ship' musta been secert.

I Made a Collosus Boss!
Seriously, bar the collosus, no one knows, though there's quite a lot of bable about the orion in the tech room, I wonder if there's anythin there?

Or you could just download the cutscene from my site (see signature).
