1. Im making an arrival Cue for bombers. I also do a send messge.
>>Ship-type destroyed
--------100
--------fighter
You have to destroy 16 manticores and once you destroyed them the bombers (should) come. its crazy.
2. Also.....this might be something I dont know
I want a Ravana To attack a station but all it does is fire turrets. I want it to fire its Lazers but I cant find out how........
Cheers,
Supernova_989
-
1. I dont know what youre asking
2.beam free-all sexp
or if youre on FRED Open there should be a checkbox to make it that way by default
-
1. What else can you do to make them come when the Manticores are destroyed? If not, are manticores fighters
2.thanks

ahhh reminds me of the VBB.
-
do
is-wing-destroyed
-
or even better:
is-destroyed-delay
---0
-----
-
Yeah, your asking it to check for ALL fighters, you're in a fighter..
If you kill all enimies, then your wingmen, then kill yourself somehow the bombers should come. However, i doubt that is the desired effect.

A lot depends on (2) things..
(1) Are you using Fred2. standard version
To use the beams (in standard version) you`ll look in the events editor.
or
(2) Are you using FS2Open. (SCP) Sorce code project version
The events editor will have modifications to various editors, changes made by the SCP.. Navigate these editors to find what you seek. ;)
Use the (Mission Specs) editor to beamfree by default... Beams are active at game start. and the (events editor) is used to trigger beam free at a specific time.
I hope this helps at least a little, had to many rum and cokes, hehehe. :D
Oh i`m 49 so i`m allowed to drink, carry on. :p

Be advised that the "all ships beam-freed by defailt" flag (IIRC) will only apply to ships that are present at the very beginning of the mission. Any that jump in will require their own beam-free-all events. Personally, I'd like to see the afore-mentioned box in the mission editor removed, and a similar box added to each ship's initial settings. That way, you can say that a ship is beam-freed as part of its initial status... no activation event, even if it jumps in later.
-
-or make it so that itll apply to ALL ships at ALL times (unless its locked by an event later, of cource)
or both... i dunno. im sleepy. dont mind me.
-
I didn't know that. no...because i have ships warping in that are beam free when they arrive and i don't write an extra sexp for it. I thought beam free all ships by default did that. i never knew so i never did it, and it works fine for me.

Supernova. It's plainly obvious that you haven't done the walkthrough that comes with FRED since you're asking questions that it answers.
Put aside the mission you're trying now and with FRED open got to Help>>Help Topics. In the document that comes up click on the extended walkthrough option. Don't just read the walkthrough. Sit down and do it. If you're serious about becoming a FREDder the walkthrough will teach you about 90% of the things you need to know to get started.
If when you click Help Topics nothing happens get this (http://homepage.ntlworld.com/karajorma/freespace/Downloads/freddocs.rar) and using WinRAR (http://www.rarlab.com/download.htm) extract it to your \FreeSpace2\Data\freddocs folder.
So far people have been happy to answer your questions but eventually their patience will run out when you're asking questions that are answered so easily for you elsewhere.
-
Kara's always so polite, he makes me sick.
Go through the walk through and go to the fred academy.
-
He's already signed up for the FA so he's taking a step in the right direction already :D
-
Good deal.
WALK THROUGH!!!!!!

And that, sir, was the content of my very first post on the VBB years ago :p ...
I probably still have that archived somewhere...
-
i have another question...
how do you move faster in FRED?
its too darn slow
-
1 through 8, 1 being slow, 8 being faster...
Rotating is Shift-1 through Shift-4, again 1 being slowest, 4 being fastest...
-
Also, isn't "ship-type-destroyed" in his case, simply a number of the type of ship that must be destroyed?
In this case:
--when
--ship-type-destroyed
--100
--fighter
Is that not simply asking for 100 fighters to be killed?
--when
--percent-type-destroyed
--100
--fighter
That is the SEXP (I believe; haven't checked with FRED yet) ordering that all fighters in the mission must be destroyed -- including yourself, if you are in a fighter.
In his case, he would have to take ths suggestions of the people above, using:
---when
--is-destroyed-delay
-0
-
--send-message (or whatever he planned on)
Or chain it:
---when
--is-destroyed-delay
-0
-
--do-nothing
The above could serve as the arrival cue for the bombers (through "is-event-true-delay").
Chained:
---when
--true
--send-message
--#Command
--High
--

No, that's not correct. The beam-free-all-by-default mission flag applies to all ships, whether or not they are present at mission start.
-
Thanks. I have fixed BOTH problems.
-
How do you get music to play during missions? Because I made an intense battle scene and there's no music. How can you get it to play?
-
This can also be found in the walkthrough. ;)
In the Mission Specs dialog, there is a drop-down menu to select the in-game music.
-
Or, as my brain calls it; "Shift-N, Click, Select, Click, OK."
But seriously, do the walkthrough... You're being receptive and all with our comments, and we're glad to help and all, but you'll find that the walkthrough covers everything you'll need and more... :)

That makes me feel better. I didn't feel like going back through all of MT's Missions to fix that, wondering the entire time how i missed it when i was testing.

Supernova, you're probably one of the better n00bs around here. You ask questions and don't flame us when we answer, and you're not the bad type of persistent either.
Just remember (I'm sure you already know) that everyone here is willing to help, as long as you just give us a chance to.
-
I belive the corect term is newbie
-
The proper term is 'new member'. I ****ing hate the work 'newbie' and all it's alphanumeric derivatives. It's simple; either people are nice, or twats - doesn't matter how new or old they are to a particular game or community.
-
Ooh! Analogies!
Newbie is to n00b, as Supernova_989 is to Cobra. ;)
-
thanks hippo for teh help...
where am in comparison to cobra&supernova_989?
-
Look left then a wee bit up.
-
 Scary how i understood that...
-
meh i know that... it means im neither a newb or a n00b...
-
Another question ( i know it is in the walkthrough, but i dont get it.)
how do you make Huge cruiser ships arrive?
-
:wtf:
arrival cue?
or if you mean that green warp thingie?(sorry it looks green to me... i never use it much cause its used to show that a ship appeared through a Knossos. i think)
Ship editor->Misc.->Special Warp
-
Select your ship, place it on the grid, then cue its arrival either off another event or after a certain mission time.
-
Hehe duh:blah: it was on hide cues the whole time:lol:
-
and you call me a n00b...... *sigh.... loads up fred, starts fredding* we shall see what you have to say to this.
-
Yeah, thats the most unnesscessary button... Especially since you couldn't possibly do something on the grid while ghanging ship stats (it it even possible?)... :p
-
It's not :p
And Hide Cues is definitely one of the most annoying buttons in FRED2 (next to that clumsy "X" in the corner). I really only go into the SE to:
1) Change IFF stance
2) Weapons
3) Arrival/departure cues
-
thats pretty much all you HAVE to do there... everything else is sexpable...
-
Yep.
Oh, and [OFFTOPIC]Hippo, how did AHTW work out? I've not been around for a long while, and was just wondering whether you finished it or not.[/OFFTOPIC]
-
what is this fred that everyone keeps telling me about. I have a game called fred, and i put ships out there on a battleship like grid. Not sure how to play it though.
-
:wtf:
Shadow, do I have to take away your drugs again?
-
Actually i think someone should....last week my doctor gave me a steroid shot, it reacted badly with the meds...it reacted even worse when we discovered that i am allergic to that steroid. That was interesting.
can i go play fred now?
-
[q][OFFTOPIC]Hippo, how did AHTW work out? I've not been around for a long while, and was just wondering whether you finished it or not.[/OFFTOPIC][/q]
Still in development :p there's a demo though...
Caffeine pills good! :nervous:
Erm, yes... Lets go play fred now...

It's a kids game. You're supposed to pick up the ship with the mouse move it over towards the other ships and make lots of explosion noises. Then you choose the losing ship and press the delete key :D
-
I CHALLENGE YOU TO A GAME OF FRED!!!!!!!
-
and for a supernova, press Alt-F4! :p
-
ROFL!!!!!!!!!!!!!
you guys cant imagine how much i was laughing while reading all that...
and yo ucan do supernovas in ANY game! YAY!
-
...
Oy.
Shadow/Hippo/Kara:  :wtf:
And I call down an error message...

he slammed his clipboard on our little space ships.........we can't play fred now.
