Here's my "review"
December 26th, at 8:45 i saw "Aviator", with an all-star cast including Jude Law, Kate Beckinsale, Leonardo DiCaprio, Cate Blanchett, and Gwen Stefani, to name a few. Everyone i saw it with (3 guys, 4 girls) disliked the movie, and i was the only one that enjoyed it. Granted, it was a little on the long side, but nonetheless a great movie. I asked one of the guys that was with us why he didn't like it... was it because there wasn't enough sex, violence, and blood? He replied (seriously) "hehe well i am a guy"... so it appears that i'm one of the few people of our age group that can sit down and watch a good, clean movie, with a great plot and storyline, even though it lacked excessive language, sex scenes, nudity, blood, gore, violence, etc. I recommend it. A great movie i think, almost on par with other film biographies, such as "A Beautiful Mind".
While i'm no fan of Leonardo DiCaprio, I must say that he's getting good. His performance in "Catch me if you can" with Tom Hanks was good, but in "The Aviator" it's nothing short of spectacular. All acting in the movie, in fact, was great. There were some parts of the movie that for 5 minutes would be nothing more than one of the characters talking about their emotions or feelings, and i think that was drawn out a little long, but otherwise a great movie, and i'd recommend it to anyone who can enjoy a movie with less than a "R" rating.

Haven't seen it yet, but I did read somewhere that the average camera shot has gone down from whole minutes to about 15 seconds - following the average attention span of the put-instant-coffee-in-the-microwave-and-it's-ready-before-you-heat-it-up American public. :p

Aviator is Howard Hughes biopic, isn't it? Does it have the bit where he goes nuts, buys hotels in Las Vegas to live in and starts to bottle his own urine?

Well, it also makes it easier from a directing perspective...actors only have to keep straight faces for 15 seconds. ;)

Dude, everyone knows movies without R ratings suck. That's why R stands for R0X0RZ!!
-
9 of the top 10 highest grossing movies of all time were below PG-13 (the only one that was R was passion of christ)
5 out of the top 50 highest grossing movies of all time were PG-13 or below.
i have nothing against R-rated movies, but with all due respsect, to say that movies without R ratings suck would be ignorant at best. that or you have a flawed opinion ;)

I haven't seen it (I don't even know if it's out in Blighty yet), but I was greatly discouraged by the flyer posters, that seem to pimp the fact that Sprout-Boy and Kate Beckinsale are in it, rather than what it's actually about (the posters are basically huge close-ups of their faces, with nothing else on them).
I do have an interest in Howard Hughes, though (I love the 1930s - they were IMO the beginning of the golden age of aviation), so I might see it, especially after reading this...

Bah. Go see Flight of the Phoenix instead. Much better movie on a lower budget.

Flight of the Phoenix i saw the week before. one of the best movies i've seen all year, without a doubt.
