Well, my free CD showed up finally... (I ****ing ordered it in august :rolleyes ... I could have downloaded it by now...)...
Now, I've seen firsthand some problems that various programs have with SP2, and that a lot will need to be patched to work... Now, is it possible for me to have the option of running it or not? Or is it not even worth it? (though i have some nasty bugs with xp that i'd hope it would fix...)...
Also, is it possible to remove the "Turn of this computer" button on the XP login screen? I've found it usefull to press [Windows-Key]+L to lock down the system, so my parents can **** anything up, but my mom enjoys clicking that, therefore canceling large uploads and stuff... (It took me a WEEK to upload a 40Mb file, because i kept getting cut off when almost done... )... They don't know enough to hold down the power button for 4 seconds, and they don't know HOW to take the battery out of the laptop, so that should stop them...
-
There should be a way to get the "lock computer" button back actually, since we have it in Uni. (Not sure how tho)
-
Well, I can lock it down fine with Windoeskey-L, its just shutdownable...

I hate SP2. I have this god damn security window popping up telling me "OMFG YOU HAVE NO FIREWALL OR VIRUS PROTECTION! NOES!". It wont ****ing go away and leave me in peace, it has to keep popping up. I hate it. I keep turning it off but sometimes it comes on! God.
I hate SP2.

Uhhh that goes away :)
Go into the security center and select "not monitored".

Furthermore, that's a good thing since it keeps idiots who don't know use computers (which are the majority of users and also the majority of the zombied computers) aware that they need to update their definitions.
The SP2 firewall is also actually useful unlike the POS original firewall.
In any case, you can turn the entire reminder system off if you want. You're supposed to be an advanced user right? Go to Admin Tools->Services and turn off the Security Center.
@Hippo
Considering the fact that you can simply turn off the computer and back on for the same effect (but worse consequences) consider it a good thing that the shutdown button is there.
However, there is something you can do about it. It seems you're using the welcome screen right? Turn that off and use the old-style of login. The locked screen of that only has the Ok and Cancel buttons.

Maybe you should seriously think about having a firewall and virus protection then. It's not like you can't get both completely for free.

True, but a majority of the time my firewalls block my online activity.
-
And any half-decent firewall, INCLUDING the SP2 one, let's you unblock programs individually.
-
Wouldn't matter. I found that even after designating a program NOT to be blocked, it still magically interferred with something in the system that wouldn't let me do things, like playing SS2 online.
-
Uh huh, which ones have you tried? I somehow doubt every single firewall out there would do this when that doesn't happen for other people.
-
Hippo: Did you check the Users and Passwords Control Panel? (It might be renamed something like "My slaves" in XP, I'm using 2k right now)
I'm pretty sure there's an option to remove the shutdown button in 2K, since XP is based on 2K it might have something similar. You might be screwed if you have home, though.
Your best bet is to look online...for example, I found this with about 30 seconds of Googling:

Bingo!
That's now a bookmarked page :D ...

Then its not configured properly.

*cough* Zonealarm *cough*
Well, it turns out that SP2 is going to have pretty much NO effect, as AOHell disables the XP firewalls anyway...
