SO as not to hijack someone else's thread with yet another model that more than likely won't be finished, I bring thee, Ares. God of War.
Or not. I'm too tired to think straight tonight, but I think Ares = Mars = War... Either way... Feast ye eyes on this:

Ok, so I cheated a little and had bumpmapping on in Max. Sue me. The modelled parts should be apparent. Since they are recessed more than the bumping.
Still very much a WIP, and will probably die on my HDD. So there. :p

So you have modeled the missile ports and the vents on top? A good start and well done.
-
needs a new texture, would you like me to give it a shot?
-
Not the missile ports, but all of te innards, where there is no plating
Edit: The texture? Err, if you want to, I suppose.
-
I thought DaB and LS had already done the Ares texture.?
-
I don't see the difference. Is this the high-poly version or what?
-
athena is war
-
no athena is knowledge or whatever
ares definently =war
-
athena, god of war and wisdom
but ares was war too it seems, and moreso.
-
i thought athena was knowledge and hunting
and ares was just staright up war

http://www.pantheon.org/articles/a/athena.html
Athena, the Greek goddess of wisdom, war, the arts, industry, justice and skill. She was the favorite child of Zeus. She had sprung fully grown out of her father's head. Her mother was Metis, goddess of wisdom and Zeus' first wife. In fear that Metis would bear a son mightier than himself. Zeus swallowed her and she began to make a robe and helmet for her daughter. The hammering of the helmet caused Zeus great pain in the form of headaches and he cried out in agony. Skilled Hephaestus ran to his father and split his skull open and from it emerged Athena, fully grown and wearing her mother's robe and helmet. She is the virgin mother of Erichthnonius.

Ares, the Greek god of war, is tall and handsome, but vain and as cruel as his brother Hephaestus was kind. His sister Eris, the goddess of strife, is his constant companion, but he is also attended by his sons Deimos and Phobos, as well as Enyo, an old war-goddess.

post a 1024 urwaping of it (yes I know it maches the origonal, the added details need aditional texture detail)
-
The way I've heard it is Ares is the god of aggressive war while Athena is defensive war, tactics, and strategy.
-
Or.....
one's a man and one's a wummin.
-
I can't see any pictures.:sigh:
-
Err...
Unwrapped original...
Dunno what good this'll do...
-
Ares was God of War before Mars. :p
Anyway, it'll look nice probably after textureness.
-
hmm...I think it might look a teensy bit better if you indented the side venty-dealies the same way that you did on te top of the missile banks.
-
wasnt ares the god of discord?
[edit] wait, thats loki... [/edit]
on topic: cant say i like the model im afraid... i cant tell the difference really.
-
not the texture the UV map, the wireframe projection of the texture coordanants
-
Oh...
-
For anyone who'd like to have a looksie at it, I've got it into pof form. I've included 2 textures, but it'd probably be best if you look at it in surface mode for now.
I've rounded the top engines, and I've made the bone thingies look more integrated into the ship, bu bumping and rounding the joint a bit.

Still... a WIP.

That's brilliant. Very good application of smoothgroups as well, great work. :)
My only two suggestions would be to first smooth quad-divide the glass mesh to get good specular highlights (see Bobs Herc) and perhaps put some machinery behind the pilot to fill in the space a bit (maybe just bring the back yellow bit forward).
Can't wait to see it finished.

There's absolutely no reason to alter the texture if the UVmap is tweaked accordingly.
