Title: I'm new and need help
Post by: Pyro MX on December 29, 2004, 04:16:37 pm
Okay this is my first post on the HLP Forums and I will try to make brief since I have a lot of things to say!

First of all, I thanks all the guys who worked on the SCP project. I am a big fan of Descent/FreeSpace and when I saw there was no FS3, I was sad... until now!

I know nothing of 3D rendering but I draw with classic paper and pencil so if I have some ship models I will maybe post them here. I also work on GIMP and I made 2 wallpapers for SCP but I will not post them now because I cannot do external links to the pictures.

Stop skipping here if you are still reading!
I got a big problem. I want to play FSSCP, nut I only a got a demo-like version of the game that I got with my joystick and I cannot update it. I went to local game stores in hope of finding a copy of the full version, but I didn't find it. Can you help me?

PS:I use FS2

Hi!

:welcome:

You won't find a copy of FS2 in any store these days. If you want to buy one, it'll cost a lot on ebay. I'd suggest either downloading a copy from HOTU as Falcon says, or finding someone who can upload the ISOs for you (there's someone with a link in their signature, but I can't remember who - you'll have to look out for it).

Enjoy your stay at HLP, and check out the modding forum if you're interested in making models for the game :)

Well I got nothing to do renders... I know it's done with 3DSMax or something, but I don't have the machine to run it (Xeon3 500MHz) but as soon as I find a way to post my pics here, I'll show you the whole thing. I only drew one model that I named "Solaris Heavy Bomber" it's nothing big since I started drawing this year but oh well...  accept critics :p !

Check out my siggy.
You will have to ask for a place in line, but I can assure you that Freespace is well worth the wait. :)

I mailed Genoism a copy once...  Didn't charge him, either. But I dunno how often I'd do that, since it cost me. :p

MatthewPapa's GameWarden site has the actual files but he asks people to sign up so that they can reserve a place in  a queue to stop everyone downloading the game at once.

The link is directly below his post.

As for the version of freespace you have I think you probably could install FS2_Open on it and have it work reasonably well. What you actually have is a copy of Freespace : Colossus no doubt. This is basically a cut down copy of FS2 with working multiplayer and the first 10 missions.

The .exe files are different but you replace those with the FS2_Open .exe files anyway.

However you'd probably have problems playing mods on a FS2_Open/Colossus hybrid so eventually you'd want to upgrade to the ISOs.

Don't bother with the HotU version. For you this would actually be a retrograde step as Colossus is much closer to being a full version than HotU is.

He wont - Collossus has every ship in the game, as well as full table files and all that -It's only really missing FRED, and the last two acts worth of missions and CBAnis. I played through several mods on it.

I know you'd probably be fine 90% of the time but I took a look at colossus and every single VP is a different size (rather bizzarely that includes Sparky_Hi!) so unless you replace them all sooner or later you're going to run into something you should have but don't.

That said you can play multiplayer on Colossus so it can't be missing that much.

Thx y'all for the help! I think that I will find the ISOs somewhere on Kazaa or something like that!

I just know that I must not download the version of Hotu website! If I see someone with the link that leads to the full game in his sig I'll click it :p and if I don't find it with all the stuff you posted here, welll uhh... I think I am really really bad to search over the net  !

Last thing, isn't there a web site where I can find this game in full version except Hotu?

Btw... do you want me to show up the 2 wallpapers that I made?

HotU isn't a full version. In fact it's stripped down much more heavily than Colossus (which is what I assume you have).

MatthewPapa's site has the full game as three ISO files which you'll have to burn to CD or install using a virtual CD program like Daemon Tools. AFAIK it's the only place that still has the ISO files available for download still.

EMule, Bit Torrent and Kaaza can probably be used to find copies but I don't have a link.

You can upgarde to the full version from the HotU, though.  You have to replace all of the .vp files and then download the movies (which I have yet to do).  The movies you have are blanks and you're missing a lot of command ani's in that version.

Those command anis are important if you do mission writing since they really spice up a command breifing.

@Kara: If Colossus doesn't include the Vasudan missions, it doesn't need the Vasudan interface graphics.  That's probably where the size difference came from.

I never said you couldn't. But upgrading Colossus to a full version requires exactly the same amount of work (i.e download all the vp files) and colossus is actually a better starting point since you have full music and voice for the first few missions while you wait for the downloads. :)

That's probably a fair chunk of the difference but the Colossus Sparky_Hi is about half the size of the standard one but the difference between Sparky_FS2.vp in both is less than a few megs (which seemed rather strange).

For eMule/eDonkey

Freespace 2 CD 1 (ed2k://|file|Freespace_2_(1999).CD1.ChAoScReW.ShareReactor.ISO|636616704|F19DE78F6E5AD57CAEADFDA3EAF3B779|/)

Freespace 2 CD 2 (ed2k://|file|Freespace_2_(1999).CD2.ChAoScReW.ShareReactor.ISO|713785344|8A1525FD0D785AF8C96F895AC07EB972|/)

Freespace 2 CD 3 ( ed2k://|file|Freespace_2_(1999).CD3.ChAoScReW.ShareReactor.ISO|704397312|930DAA10548879847C60D6294373975A|/)

IMO these are the best ED2K links
