How fast do you folk usually get on torrent downloads? Note, this is a purely intellectual question and not meant to turn into a flamewar.
I'm on an uncapped(3mb) charter cable and I average 35-50kbps once it gets going and I was wondering if that's average or if I'm slow.
-
I rarely get very fast speeds so I generally avoid BT. Last time I tried I was getting around 8-10k/s (on a 512k ADSL connection).
-
Depends on the popularity of the torrent. I get 1-4 kbps quite often with low popularity torrents. I usually don't get into the 35-50 kbps range even with a decent torrent. I'm on a cable connection.
That's why I try to use university http servers for downloading big files like OS cds, I can get 300 kbps on one of those easily if it's close.
-
If there's a lot of peers, I can hit over 100. Right now Bleach 11 is going at ~55k/s, so a little slow.
-
Usually 5-30 kb/s for the types of files I download, which are generally around a gig, give or take. However, I often get short bursts of 50+ kb/s and on smaller, very popular files (such as game demos over at filerush.com) its not uncommon to download above 100kb/s and sometimes even several hundred.
For example, a 1.2 gig file (which shall not be named) recently finished, averaging about 10 kb/s I'de say. But at the same time, the Silent Hill 4 demo from Filerush.com averaged about 400 kb/s.
note: I'm behind a firewall, so, uh, take that into account.
-
Most everything I download is at around 90, which is maxing my connection.
-
firewall shouldn't make a difference really in terms of speed.
if a torrent doesn't have a lot of seeders, i don't download it. usually i'm around 35 or 36 kb/sec though. i always only torrent at night, so it downloads/uploads while i'm sleeping.
-
Depends greatly on number of peers and their upload speed. At times, I can get easily over 500 KB/sec, but usually it's more like 100-200 KB/sec.
-
1Mbit connection, I can get anything from 10K/s to 89K/s
-
On a side note, have you heard how Shareconnector got closed down by the dutch authorities? They never learn...
P2P sites are like mushrooms, they feed on this kind of sh*t!!
I never get my speed over 60kbs, and that happens only when i have several d/l at a time. On one file alone i´m lucky if i get it over 30kbs. I´m on Cable here, btw.

Is it sad that I can remember the glory days of napster?
-
no, because not only can I do the same, but i can remember the days before Napster. the days you actually *gasps* bought a CD or tape. ;)
Closing down Suprnova and other sites really hit bittorrent hard though.
-
298k/s just a moment ago.
It was a porn torrent. :v
-
I can get anything from 1 to 60k/s, but usually towards the lower end of that range. I'm on 512 ADSL.
BTW, I still usually buy stuff rather than dl it. I prefer to have something physical I can hold, rather than just a folder on my hard disk. My downloads are mostly programs I can't afford or movies I don't want to buy (either they're films I don't want to watch more than once, or they're ones I can't find in the shops).
-
Depending on the torrent, I've had everything from 90b/s to 190KB/s
-

That's my cap, I reach it always when there are more seeds than peers, but I average at 100-150.
-
A gig and a half, eh? You'll be there for a litle bit.
-
Two things BD.
1) Wouldn't it have been easier to make a screencapture of just the BT window? (Alt + PrntScrn)
2) Mainline?
-
It really depends on where you get it. On TorrentBits, I almost always got 200+K/s. However, on SuprNova, I rarely hit 30K/s. Just goes to show you that private communities are ALWAYS better.
-
depends, but usually between 20 and 50 on a 512 DSL.
The only BT I have going now is... well, stuck on "connecting to peers" :p

1) Couldn't be arsed with doing the resize, and this way it actually looks like I've got something to hide.
2) 2mb - 256 upload or something like that (275 download and 55 upload are caps)
-
I remember the days of Donkax.
Old skool, fo' real..

That's cause Janos lives in a Scandinavian socialist paradise, where the government gives everyone a free T3 connection. But there are also polar bears roaming the streets and attacking people, so I guess it kind of balances out.
-
usually around 400k or more.
I don't know what kind of connection I'm going back home to, however. damn, do I have anime abstinence?
