Title: UT2k4 or wait?

Hey all :) I recently came into some money, and am looking to buy a multiplayer game to fulfill my modding and multiplayer cravings :D I love UT2k4, but I'm wondering if I should buy it, or just wait for the next Unreal engine....is the next thing gonna be a sequel to UT or Unreal? Should I buy UTk24 now, or wait and get the next thing that's coming up?

Unreal Engine 3 (which looks amazing by the way), won't be ready till at least 2006, from what Tim Sweeny, Epic's lead programmer, has been saying. The first game it will be used on is Unreal 3. Unreal Tournament will be in development simlutaneously I believe, but it'll still be a bit of a wait.

UT2K4 is definetly worth your money - it has everything UT2003 had, all of the mods, plus Assault and of course Onslaught. There's enough content there to keep you busy until the next Unreal game is out for sure.

I bought UT2004, but I hardly ever played.  On the balance of things, I think it'd have to be the only game you play online to make it worth purchasing.

Irronically not that much people play it online anymore.

At least the bots are kick ass.

The UT2 engine (AKA Warfare) is crap.  Sure it's got nice visuals, but the sound rendering is very flawed, and the physics engine is a joke.  In addition to it being overhyped, it is also underdesigned as far as the gameplay of 2k3/2k4 goes.  It just seems like a marketing ploy which the selling point is "look how pretty our textures are".

The source engine, on the otherhand, looks to be a VERY promising engine.  Granted it wont be as easy as the simple UnrealScript and mutator system, but the video is good, the sound is great, and the physics are absolutely stunning.  There was even a working internal combustion engine made by someone.

And that is my array of fragmented thoughts for tonight!

IMO the Unreal engine looks alot nicer than source wich suffers from "1 polygon ground syndrome"

the next unreal engine game wont be ready till around 2006-2008 and aperently wont be an unreal game, just will use the engine.

First game using Unreal 3.0 engine is released in 2006 for Xbox2 and PC and maybe PS3

Well it could be Unreal championship 3 or it could be Biowares game that is using Unreal 3.0 engine (FPS-RPG) or jade Empire2

or it could be anything, i know only that first game using Unreal3 engine is released in 2006 and it's Xbox2 game and  PC
