Go and render it!! I kind of liked the design of that ship in Starship Troopers.

I wasn't mentioning that was a render yet, I wanted to see if anyone mistook it for a picture and me asking if anyone would like to see it rendered :P
Well bah :P

Also, yeah, everyone can thank SHrike...he offhandedly accidentally challanged me to make that...so I did  (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/smile.gif) (Only serious challanges accepted, so don't get any ideas) :P

Suppose I should take some more pics of it to show of the 103.8 megs of textures :P
I will post some more pics when I have em rendered out.

Stats:
just under 50,000 polys,
48 texture maps (24 bump, 24 color...bump fileld in for spec since I made multi level bump maps)
About 20 hours work, (Give or take, I read a novel, bought and beat two games, went out a few times, saw a couple movies, I do have a life) :P
Took just under 5 hours for that above pic to render out...

The model itself is only 1.26 megs...but in .lwo format...and is comprised of 9 layers.
8 for the hull and a 9th for the engine glow effect for when I do space shots.

so it woud have to be converted to either 1 layer and 1 object, or left in 9 layers and converted to 9 objects for export.

Together, the model and textures are 105.4 megs....But, as Shrike asked for when I started working on it, I will be converting the model to 1 layer/1object, and simplifying the textures to an extreme amount.

Right now you can take a 640x480 pic of jsut the hull numbers and get no pixilation.
But I hoping to hit somewhere around 5 megs or so for a distribution version...so everyone can use it...
I don't have 3ds or anything isntalled anymore, so it will be in 1 layer 1 object lightwave 5.6 format, with probably 4 - 6 texture maps covering the whole thing...

Won't look nearly as good, but should be plenty fine for renderings for everyone...

SOmeone will have to volunteer to convert it to other formats and reapply the texture maps...

But I wouldn't look for this to happen for at least a few days, as I am going to be building the fighters and then creating a carrier version of the model...at which time I will probably release all three models at once...

Gbbflz. I just love Starship Troopers, so what a pleasure to look at this one. Snif, I just hope someone will convert it to 3ds...
Do yuioo plan to make the new ship shown at the end of the movie? I saw blueprints somewhere around on the net, but I don't remember where.

Hah! It has the same exact weaponry as the real 18 foot model...n the same exact places :P

Has the same everything...
(Cept some of the detailing on the back end sides..as I didn't have any good pics of that area to work from)

But everything else is damn close :P
Besides...I asked the same question...wheres the guns? But hey...if it was good enough for the movie..it's good enough for me :P

As fra as I know, the only weapon onboard the roger young is a turret behind the deck, and the two forward guns at the left and the right of the deck. otherwise, it's main weapon are... its crew  (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/biggrin.gif) that's a troop transport ship folks, that carries 20 dropships I think.
Btw, are you sure the carrier version is really a different one

heh the model actually has more weapons then that, has 6 forward facing turrets...4 of which are actually static on the real model, and the other 2 look as if they could move on a x+y combination axis only in conjunction with each other...and there is also the turret behind the "bridge" area...but yeah...that is it...
I am not sure how many dropships she can actually hold, but in the movie it looked liek one per bay...and there are only 18 dropship bays on the model...
Course, there are 10 other bays on the ship which after a discusion between Shrike and I, have decided are for cargo or some such...

Also, yeah the carrier version is different...but only in 3 ways...there is no "core" or "Gantry" on the center deck,
It has an elevator where the "core" was.
And the detailing of that mid plate is a bit different...
Oh yeah..and it has fighters on it :P

But those are the only differences...
I will change the name to something else...
the Yamamoto was a dropship ship like the Rodger Young, so I can't use that...

on the plan were we hear Mickeal Ironside syaing that they have a new Skymarshal and a new strategy to his troppers, we have a nice view on a carrier, but I don't remember the name, not even sure wa actually see it  (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/frown.gif). Mybe you could look in the book, ships have the same names.

That model is simply Jaw dropping...
 Heh... it would be a bit hard to put into Freespace tho!
 50,000 polys, 48 texture maps... some major scaling down would be needed. It would be cool tho, especially if it was kept looking like that...
