Get rid of the gun pod thingies underneath, and you're on to a definite winner there!

I just added the gun thingeys for fun. Can take e'm off later, but the fact is this program is so easy to use. I can't see how the Modding Community just lwent past it.:doubt:

I've never heard of it. Can you post a link to the download? (I'm assuming it's free or a trial version or summat)

Good model though - now you gotta HTL-ify it! :D

The first version is free, but the 2&3 versions aren't. Here is the link. You will have to save it in Direct 3D format to get it in TS.

DOGA? I know a bunch of people who use that, but they're from a different community.

I doubt it will be a good replacement for MAX or even TS but I certainly think I might find it useful for making concept models. I think I'll have to give it a try. :)

I strongly urge you to switch to Max. I have and never looked back. Infact, even something simple, like setting heirachy in TS, gets on my tits.

I have switched to Max. Couldn't understand head or tail of it and I lack the time to learn though so I've given up on modelling completely for the time being. I'll give it another look over when I do get back into serious modelling :)

If making concept ships with this thing is as easy as I've heard though I may do the equivalent of doodling with it while watching TV.

Max is easy enough to do that in. :p

All you need to do is learn how to use the extrude, and cut tools. Everything else is just extra.

Max has a low poly modelling tutorial in the help files that is perfect for learning how to model stuff for FS2.

nah

truespace is the way to go. it is the ultimate in cheap(-ish) 3D modelling power.

5.2 is pretty dang powerful too... uses the lightwave rendering engine. and it has a maximum polycount of like 300 000.

Can't exactly read through that while watching TV though can I? :D I'd have to take time out of my busy schedule to do that :)

you've never used Max then, have you?

There's a reason why the pros go for it, y'know........

I tried Truespace once. I nearly put my foot through the monitor. Horrible, horrible program. GMax all the way for me...

I mostly model in TS and blender, it's just this is a nice program to start of with. But, the model would still need some work in TS to get it FS capable.

TS is 100 times better then 3DMax as far as making models goes..

In the rendering and animation department however, 3Dmax takes the crown...

i'm slowly downloading Max, but it will take me a while. Also, they have a demo for Rhino, tried it, now that is a hard program to use.:eek2:

Now that is amusing.

I may prefer using TS over Max but I'm in no way foolish enough to claim it's better. It's mearly that I found it easier to use. For low poly models both programs can turn out very good results. There's no real need to choose one over the other now that we have Styxx's converter so let's just leave it at that.

Yeah, but we've already established you're jinxed.......

(And on the subject, I converted another model today.... yay!  Used to take days to set it up in TrueSpit, now takes literally minutes :D)

It's very particular, per each model, on how it wants capitalization, and linkage...  The same combination often doesn't work twice...

do fs2 models *need* to be triangulized?
Title: Check This Out
Post by: Col. Fishguts on January 03, 2005, 02:36:08 pm
nope, afaik they get triangulated automatically when loaded into the engine.
