Title: First try on modelling
Post by: mert361 on January 02, 2005, 05:23:41 pm
My first modelling try, build up from ground using naval ship skeleton style.
Inspired from nemesis dragon ,  sobek

I used AC3D to model this from scratch. designed to be a gunboat about %60- %70 size of a Fenris.

Still needs lots of work: turret size correction ,learn to make subsystems, learn table entry, learn to make rotating turrets, correct side thrusting etc
Currenty 1953 polys.

Do you see a future in it ?  :)

if anyone interested in texturing this , i will be very happy since i cant texture,  i will try to finish mesh before my finals start.

I'm impressed. Pretty efficient use of polies and an excellent ship design to boot.

Looks more like a fighter to me right now - the cockpit (I assume that's what the recessed parts on the front are) seems way too big for a gunship, though the turret seems the right size.

If you added a couple guns to the front you'd have yourself a scouting ship. (Designed for lone ops, hence the turret. :D)

It'll work as a gunship too, but like you say you'll have to resize the turrets and add a few more. Probably resize the cockpit too.

I hate you.
I really do.
(just kidding ;))
That is so good for a first try. Make the nose a little sleeker and I think you definately have an alien looking ship.

First try on modelling , first try using a software of this kind.
(In anyway i have to start , ý study computer engineering..  )

i cant find a place to put cocpit so just put it somewhere,

for guns my plan is;
  2 HL-7's / flak turrets
  2 kaiser gunpods over cocpit
  no primary,
secondary weapon load of cyclops (before, ý have to find a place for seconday banks )
  may be shieds
  45 m/s speed no thrusters

My first aim is to recreate nemesis dragon , in 2 days i ended with this :)

not bad for a first try,
thogh, despite what WMC sais the poly use is not very good at all (though ok for a first time)

Here the updated model currently  160 m ,  1562 polies .
2 turrets , 8 gun pods,
i resized turrets and cocpit and  and get rid of unneccesary polies.

What is your opinion ? Currently vaiting for a voluntier to be textured :)

Further development is currently halted , my finals is going to begin.
prey for me , my first final is programming c++ :(

The rear end needs some details. Put some greebling in or something. And add some thickness to those spars inside the dent.

By the way, what program is that?

And if this shows up above your last post, i'm talking about the images directly beneath this post (the last ones you posted).

I used AC3D.  Similar to gmax. I find this one less complex and easy to use/simple.  May be,  weekend, i will add more detail but, not sure.

I ran out of ideas for now,  i will add detail as your opinions if something that i can.

Unarmed and sans the spikes that would be a nice shuttle.

edit: woah, freaky. how'd my post get all the way up here ?

By it's usage, it's supposed to be pronouced "I".  He's a turk, and it's obvious English is not his first language.

My first attempt at modeling did not turn out that good.

Some weird accented letter. He's Turkish (or at least using a Turkish keyboard setup), so it's probably a Turkish character.

mert361: I like the model - looks like a mini Sobek. I don't like the stern though - it needs to be something other than a flat face. You could try tapering it to a point, or have an extra engine or turret there. :)

EDIT: The forum clock is buggered, hence the oddness...

See location. My brother kept typing emails with accented A's because he was in Brazil.

What is "ý"?  ::  It is " i "  actually . my first language is Turkish so sometimes instead of " i"  ,i write non capical version of " I "   and your character encoding is probably in western so you wont see some  Turkish letters properly or see them weird or like some Greek characters. (we use latin alphabet with same extensions and without "x,w" letters. )

Back to model :: stern is not good in that point , i put another exhaust nozzle but not liked it. May be tamper it upwards and add rudders to the engine pods like Vasudan Dest. Typhon   ?

Tried these but still not look looking good , tampering helped alot however.

Thing kinda looks like a Vasudan gunboat...like a mini-ish Sobek.

I think it would work nicely as a Sobek predecessor. :)

I like the engine section, as with the front, but it seems like they don't quite fit together (at first) but after update, I can tell it's coming together. Looks very cool, I especially like the fins on the engine section.. I was always a sucker for those though.. ;)
