Title: Origin of the HLP logo
Post by: redsniper on January 08, 2005, 09:49:45 pm
you know, the flaming hexagon thing.
I was just wondering... Where did it come from? Who invented it? Does it have any meaning, or is it just awesome looking?

I guess no one knows (at least no one that's awake right now)

Err. Setekh said it was just random, IIRC. Search for it, you'll find where he said it once.

As for who made it, I'd guess Setekh, since he's the guy on the staff who does the most with graphics, and he's been here since the site's beginning.

That's like saying Da Vinci was just the guy that painted the Mona Lisa...

Aha! Found it!

Quote
The Hard Light Productions logo was invented long, long ago by co-founder Setekh, and its meaning is a mystery even to members of the highest echelons of HLP society. This is about as detailed as the descriptions get. Straight from the horse's mouth:

"Well, since I designed it, I suppose I should field that question. The HLP logo represents... the Hardness of Light... and embodies the Produce of Hardy Lights... without any of the Lightness of a Production... or for that matter the Product of Hard...ness." - Setekh

Oh Setekh...:wakka:

Really?

I just thought it was a SubSpace wormhole made simple as an octagon.

Nah, something involving pirates and flaming ninjas would be the best ever.

Well then, we have no choice but to call it art.  And I think good art is the stuff that anyone interprets as anything...

Personally, years ago, I first thought it was a scary looking object...:nervous: Perhaps HLP isn't for the faint of heart?

I dunno...:ick:

Marauder indeed found the relevant quote. There's very little to add to the subject, though BD's interpretation is pretty inventive. ;)

I thought it was just an uber-detailed turret.

You know, a skull and crosscones in the middle would really set it off methinks...

Gee, I never realised how hard anyone would look to find out where it came from. ;)

P.S. Nice new sig, Marauder. :D
