Title: Alone in the Dark
Post by: Dark_4ce on January 09, 2005, 01:03:02 pm
I was so damn hyped about this movie. After all the rumors I heard, that this movie was going to be the first game to film movie that will break the "crap barrier" and surplant itself into greatness, I finally watched the trailer. They said it was like the games. Which were stories of a lone reporter or detective going into spooky places, counting heavily on the psychological horror... Well... Just watch the trailer...

For the love of god....Why?...:hopping:

1/ isn't it odd they have ripped of the Res Evil films, when the Res Evil games ripped off Alone in the Dark? (pretty much)
2/ Did they license anything other than the name and the main character?  I didn't really play the games, but IIRC they were never about monsters and SWAt teams......
3/ Anyone read the book The Relic (not the piss-poor movie adaptation of it)?  Looks like they nicked a fair bit of the story of that, too.........

and people wonder why game to movie conversions suck. Any movie is bound to suck if you leave it in the capable hands of that thing.

I hear they're also doing a marvelous job of completely ruining the Doom movie, so I guess that leave Splinter Cell which I must admit I don't have high hopes for, being Tom Clancy and all.

But who the **** hires this guy?  How much drugs would you have to take to think he could actually direct?

Ah, but he makes movies (I repeat, movies, not films) that appeal to the "Hur hur! Tits and 'sploshuns! Me like!" audience. Hence, they make studio execs lots of money....

The Resident Evil movies were surprisingly good IMO.

They are also making Final Fantasy VII : Advent Children

will be much better than Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within, that film was absolute S*** a disgrace to the final fantasy game series, but with fans's fave being continued (FF7) then it has a lot to live upto, still will be better than FF:TSW tho

http://www.adventchildren.net/

set to be released somtime during 2005

/1 Yes it is.

/2 I think the whole thing is licenced, for Alone in the Dark 4. And they never were action oriented games. And no swat.

/3 Yeah, I've read it and its sequel as well as all the other books the authors have written, pritty damn good stuff. But now that you mention it, it does have some similarities to the book.

Its actually quite depressing to see that a directors resume consits of nothing but game to film movies. Nothing original. Nothing of his own devising, all movies made for pure cash. *shudder* Even Derek Smart had an original title (albeit not a very good one, but atleast he tried)

:o If they would make a movie about Final Fantasy Tactics, then I would be interested. ;)

I actually liked Spirits Within, even though it had little to do with FF. Also liked the RE film, but the second one sucked. This film just doesn't look like having much to do with the games at all.

At least the films of Prince of Persia (script by Jordan Mechner) and Silent Hill (Team Silent having as much influence as possible) still have potential.

You guys are so picky. I love all these movies because I expect them to be bad. I enjoy them on a shallow level.

Ah, but isn't Uwe Boll the guy who mixed in actual game footage into the House of the Dead movie?

anyways, Resident evil was okay, but wasn't true to the game itself... which sucked

Doom movie is gonna suck 'cuz they're taking out what made doom great, hell, demons, and the like.

Alone in the Dark is gonna suck the big one simply because it isn't true to the game, and doesn't set out to scare the pants off of you.

and Night Hammer, there /was/ an MGS movie, it's called "Metal Gear Solid 2: The sons of liberty" :p

bloodrayne movie?... oookaaay... that's gonna appeal to the peeps who like their breasts and buttkicking.

y'know, these people who decide to make a movie out of a game, really ought to PLAY THE GAME first to get a feel for its story, its setting, just how the creators of that game have made it so, so that they can make a movie, as close to the game as possible.  that, and the producers, the script-writers, hell, even the guy who serves the actors coffee should get an idea about what the movie should closely resemble...

But that would require...effort!
