So I finally got all 3 ISOs from game warden and after 5 years since I first played FS1 (though I've played it all told about 6 times since then)... FS2 is incredible!
I just got into the first nebula mission (you know you go thru that portal and you take off a big ship and go on patrol) and crap man, it's SWEET!!
The sheer thrill of only being able to see the shivan fighters when they come in close is amazing... and you feel almost alone... kinda hard to explain but it's great! One of the single most fun gaming experiences I've had in a loooooooong time... does FS2 keep the momentum going throughout the campaign? I sure hope so!
Here's to hoping that FS3 will be made, be it made by -V- or by the fan community... any info on that btw? I've been out of the loop for a while.
-
:eek2: you have mentioned that which cannot be named...:nervous:
-
Bah... it's a stupid rule.. Just don't go making a dozen FS3 posts and you'll be fine. :doubt:
-
LOL The odds of any kind of 'official' FS3 are getting lower and lower, not that I mind really, I actually prefer the communities interpretation of things in the Mods anyway ;)
-
*sigh* not me... im depressed as hell that there isnt an FS3 :(

Lol... yeah I gave up on an official version years ago... :)
-
is it just me or have I not seen you for a good while?
and keep this guy away from FSO, it'll just kill him.
-
Btw, as many of you may have noticed, he said he just played the first Nebula Mission. What this translates into, is that you should all keep your traps shut and not spoil anything for him.
You, dude, should also not read any other threads until you finish the campaign. Infact, stay away from the boards entirely until you're done.
Oh, and
:welcome:
-
Damn, i cant wait till he posts about that mission we're probably all thinking of...
-
When you get back, IcyScythe, would you mind telling us how you found this board? :) We've had a lot of new registrations lately and I'm interested to know where they're coming from.

Found it by going from Gamespy forums to HotU (following links all the way I'd heard about FS2 for free) to Freespace Oracle to here.
-
Apparently lots of HotU users end up here cause of the FAQ. Someone posted it on HotU itself as a guide on how to update the game to a full version and as a result loads of people have followed the links in it to here :)
-
You have come to the right place. ;7
Prepare to hand over your soul ;)
-
So can we wait another Shivan theory?
Just kidding.
Kara revealed us this:

Quite a few people in some forums I'm a member of have wondered just how get the HotU version upgraded into full version. I have been reluctant to post links into the FTP and so on, because I was kinda afraid that it could result in too big of a hit - I know people pimp and pimp FS2 to no end in all sci-fi shooters threads there, and the site has 61 000 readers or something, quite a few of them more or less active gamers, so...
So, is it kosher to link them into your FAQ's FTP part? And just confirming, it's also completely in line with the user licence (the one which allows copying)?
Thanks in advance.
-
Sure. I've no problem with the FAQ getting a few more hits :)
Just hope MatthewPapa doesn't have a problem with all the new people wondering over to get the ISOs from him :)
-
We should find other places to mirror it, imho :)

I would certainily agree. I've been waiting patiently to get a download of the 3 CD ISOs at GW. In the meantime I've been playing with the HOTU version upgraded with the VPs and the SCP code. It really rocks! Still, I would like to have the 3 CDs in order to work from scratch easier.

2 briefs at least. Boxers drip to much.

Lets see, I found this site from SG, and found SG after watching FreeSpace Watch die and getting up the courage to look and see if the FS2 community was still alive. I found more that what I could have dreamed.
-
You guys hint too much, if a person goes expecting something surprising its not much of a surprise is it?
-
Exactly, everyone should just shut up :D
-
Hey i'm not the one who told him about one thing, or about that guy who was supposed to do that thing, but instead went and saw that one girl. I never even mentioned that guy or that thing. Let alone the second thing, which the first guy wasn't even supposed to do, but had to cause of that other guy...you remember the other guy, he flew that one ship. The ship that had those things on it, and it shot that stuff.
There...that should lose him if he was on our tail.
-
atleast he seems to have taken the advice to stay of the boards.

I dunno, I only played that particular mission a year or so after first completing FS2 (hated the previous one), and I was still more than impressed :D

I did see this http://forum.gamesradar.com/viewtopic.php?t=56280 in my travels. But it only got 15 views..perhaps that may be the reason.

A cool find, indeed.... scary to me that Freespace and Freespace 2 are now considered "retro gaming"... I must be getting old... Retro for me used to be like Atari... :D

They just don't know what they're talking about.
Retro gaming is the 1980's, the good C64 classics.
-
I know just the feeling! I love the nebula-missions too and... what the other guys said... You got alot of goodness ahead! :)
You know, the first times I played the first nebula mission I, first, didnt make it to jump. They blew me out of the sky, so I thougt I HAD to destroy the Shivans and spent like two hours fighting the bastards ´til my eyes ran (couldnt blink to much) and they just kept coming.
Annoying when I DID make it out and the debreifing says "nothing you could have done"... Jeez...

I still have mine. ;) No idea if it still works though seeing as its been sitting in an attic for over 15 years without being used.
As for the nebula missions, I loved those the most. When you get to the second SOC loop, turn the speakers up and the lights out. :) Thats the only real way to play it. Especially if you've got your system hooked up to a stereo with a subwoofer (or like me a home theater system) so you can really experience it properly.
As for newbies showing up, I'm afraid I had a hand in this too, seeing as I posted this thread (http://www.descentbb.net/phpbb/viewtopic.php?t=5345) on the DescentBB. ;)

In my opinion, nebula missions suck. I like missions that allow you to see the ships from a distance and I like missions that have unique back grounds, not the same thing over and over again. Also, the nebulas impair your ability to see special effects.
Dude, you're flying through a dense field of gas. You're not going to see a whole lot, which is the entire point of the missions. You're flying in a shivan-infested zone with a very limited field of vision and your sensors are greatly impaired giving the shivans a huge advantage over you.

Yes, I still have the loyal C64 here as well, but just like you, I haven't used it the last years. Opening WinVICE is just faster and more comfortable.
And yes, a decent sound system vastly improves the gaming experience. Altough it only really gets breathtaking in FS1. Turn up the volume, and play through the campaign in one go.
Dang, I really wish FS2 had equally good music.
-
i think fs2 has better music at some points but fs1 at others,

I rather enjoyed the music to both. However, as of late I just let winamp run in the background since I have special combat tracks I play when I feel like kicking much arse. :)
