Okay, here's the plan:
1: You choose which fighter you like the most.
2: Cast your vote!
3: Winning Fighter gets built by me in lego with as much detailing I can get into it, and you (the community) get to see the results!
4: Repeat if necessary ;7 (I might build all the fighters if the time permits it)
And of course, I'll post the pics of the finished product(s) here.
It's a desperate plea to cure a mans boredom, but it should be fun.
-
mmmm... Valkyrie
-
Moved to the modding forum and temporarily stuck to get it a bit of attention - this one has promise :)
Oh... Apollo!
-
Bah, build a capship!!!:D
-
Heeeeeeercuuuuuuuuleeeeeeees. Make it just like Bob's, little pilot and all. ;)
-
Valk
-
Axem: Actually...if I do...I'm gonna use that as some reference ;7
Skynet: Maybe some other time...I feel like building a fighter
-
Apollo all the way, beeyatch!!
-
Alrighty,
Well, it's 4 for the Valk and 2 for the Apollo and 1 each for the Herc, Perseus, and Herc Mk 2, and the Myrm doesn't have any votes yet.
So...with that lead, I decided to start on the Valk, she seems to be the easier one of the bunch to build. I'm gonna build and see how far I get, I'll post pics later on tonight.
-
Apollo! Apollo!
-
Valkyrie!
-
Apollo, that model needs some HTL lovin' badly.
-
*Checks poll again*
Hoight! Maybe I'll build both Apollo and Valkyrie...ya...sounds like a plan :)
-
Apollo!
-
/me votes Valk and knocks it into the lead!
-

Awwwww, at least a Fenris? ;7
-
like I said, maybe later.
No spammin' please...you want spam go to WS

After a few hours of figuring out how to build it as close to the model as possible at Minifig scale...I've come up with this!
here's a reference pic:
Not too bad eh?
More tomorrow night, after my big ass project is done...grrr...
Feedback? Comments? Gripes?
Enjoy!
-
w00t! Apollo's on top :D
-
Apollo yayee
-
Perseus! :p
-
nice! keep us updated with your lego build :)
VALK all the way :D
-
Athena, biotch.
And you should play WoW instead.
-
Damn, i never realised how makeshift the valk looked.
-
Apollo all the way! who could forget the very first ship you flew in fs1.
hey when you're finished making the valk, remove 2 engines, re-take a pic and post it as the angel.:D
-
That cockpit is absolutely dead-on. :D

Hmmm...maybe I should switch over to the Apollo...now that I have a good scale reference (Valks Cockpit is about 3 1/2 to 4 metres long)
So I'll get started on the Apollo now.
...either that or I should just wait to see which one wins...
(Edit:
Pilot: Course, I know what the fans like to see, but I'll do more than just 'take to engines off' I'll spiff it up abit
-
Noooooooo.....Apollo ugly, Valk nice.
:)
-
Perseus... that is the hardest. :p
-
True...but I'll still make it...if it wins...;)
-
It hardly seems it will... the Apollo has an 11 point lead!
-
Apollo and Valkyrie. Do 'em both
-
Tis what I'm doing :)
Expect pics of them both tonight...hopefully...;7
Gonna work on the Valk non stop right now!
-
The Apollo, this was always my favorite fighter ! (with that it's 19 points for the apollo :D )
-
Whew!
This ones gonna be BIG, I'm doing it minifig scale...but I don't think a minifig could fit (canopy is...well...pretty bulky...)
Compare it to:
It's coming along pretty well I'd say :)
More pics later
-
A good start.
If this one's done, it should be on the highlights!
-
How many are you working on simultaneously?
-
Only two, The Valk and Apollo.
The Valk is about...hmmm...30% done and the Apollo is only 10 I'd say.
Still a while to go I think...but I think I can finish the Valk, or most of it, tonight.
-
Ugh. The apollo is such a piece of crap... you really shouldn't waste your time on it... In fact.. forget the Terran ships all together, and make a lego Thoth!
-
Bah, Vasudans are such whiners ever since their planet went Blamo.
-
You're just jealous because the Vasudan economy is so much stronger than the Terran one. :p
-
Nice work! I hope you'll finish it soon! Focus on one craft first before you go for the other ! :)
Edit: Man, we have a ton of Apollo fanboys here eh?
-
Too many. It was such a crappy ship... but I guess, it's their first... and you never forget your first... :p
-
It's not crappy at all. It's one of the most well-balanced ships in the game. It can hold its own against even FS2-era fighters. :)
-
It's a heap of crap. :p
-
Heathen! :p
And you don;t want a Thoth, you want a Horus...

No it can't.
-
I just finished a rough 'outline sketch' based on the proportions of the cockpit.
She'll be 88 studs long...THAT'S HUGE! that's like...the 2nd largest thing I've built!
As for the Valk, I'd estimate it at about 65+ studs long, so...I think it'd be pretty much to scale...I hope...almost...
-
Heheh. I built myself a big battleship thingy back in the day (I was about 12) that was over a metre long. Now that was big. It did have a tendency to sag in the middle when picked up, though.
Wish I had a picture of that.... :(
EDIT: Micropsycho - yes it can. It turns just as well as any FS2 fighter, and can keep pace with many of them. Give me an Apollo and Prometheus guns, and I could beat up all over any FS2 fighter...
-
Good start for now
-
Perseus, ofcourse!
-
im gonna agree with raa, forget the terrans, go with an Astaroth
-
Wha..? how do you do that..? I never get something that looks better than a.. cube...

guess that's against ai? because you can even out-turn a dragon with an ursa agianst ai:p
-
Wolfdog: They're both built using a technique called 'SNOT' which means: 'Studs Not On Top'
The Valks Cockpit has studs on almost all the sides: top, bottem, left, right and front sides have studs, the rear does not.
The Apollo is made with hinges, plates and wing pieces. And the cockpit is actually 'floating' where it is, pinned between the two sides of the ship.
It takes a while for things to come together cause you have to invent new ways of joining things with very few pieces (I don't have that large of a collection, just about...5,000-6,000 pieces...which is small compared to other collections.)
Good news too, The Valk is almost done! I can safely say that given the night I can complete it or get a 'rough draft' of the ship done.
Pics forth coming.

Why I love the Apollo. It is my favorite ship in the game. The last time I played the freespace2 campaign I beat almost all of it using the Apollo. That thing has like the best reactor out of all terran ships.
-
I vote for Apollo. Before I discovered the Herc, Apollo was my fav fighter. I liked the design.
-
By the looks of the votes so far, it looks like it'll go as follows for the first batch of ships.
Apollo
Valkyrie
Perseus
Herc Mk1
Herc Mk2
Myrmidon
I'll try and get them finished in that order...but the Valk will be done before the Apollo...so...no one gets to see it till the Apollo is done!
Then you get a double wammy!
As for the Perseus...it'll be interesting to see if I can build it...if I can get the cockpit built...I can do it
-
WHOOO!
I know I said I'd do the Apollo first, but...well...with the Valk almost finished...I decided to put up some pics..here's two (low quality) pics to tempt your eye buds.
It's not done yet...I'll get the Apollo up then I'll post the finished Valk
Enjoy!
-
wow, badass
-
dude, you did that with legos?
coool, you have the dominion wars for pc.
-
I think ive got Dominion wars aswell. :D :D :D
only in a smaller box.
-
i have DS9 harbinger, but i can't play it until i put it a Win98 hard drive in the spare hard drive slot. the 98 has MS-DOS on it :D
-
Cobra: Don't spam my thread please, and yes I did.
And Dominion Wars sucks in my opinion, only the deathmatch thing was cool.
-
sorry.
-
Tis fine :)
-
btw though, how can you do THAT with LEGOS? that is awesome.
i originally thought you were talking about modelling in 3d, not legos, and the legos were for reference, or something.
-
pretty cool. Although the wings on it seem a little too steep downwards and i thought there was more wing pointing upward after the downward thing.
-
I checked, double checked and triple checked with the V model every time I added something new. It's extremely close to the V model in every aspect...and It's not finished just FYI.
-
Gimme a week or two to finish the models...exams are coming up soon...gotta study for them...
I'll reply back when I've finished the Valk or the Apollo...or both...but it won't be for a bit...bare with me.
-
If you can get some nicer quality photos when they're done, you can expect a highlight to come your way. But do your exams first. ;)
-
Will do Setekh!
...I should scan those pics of my Vaygr H.M.F. and Hig I.F. when I scan the pics of the Valk and Apollo.
-
anything new on this?:bump:
-
Alas...no...models so far have been ditched...but...well...I might do microfig models of them...they take next to nothing to make...and I can prolly fit in a bunch of detail too :D
-
damn. :(
-
Do all Americans call them 'legos'? 'Lego' is a trade name, right? It doesn't have a plural. They're Lego, Lego blocks, or something. Right?
-
So... then, this doesn't need to be stickied anymore, right?
-
I've called them Legos for as long as I can remember; for me, at least, using the word "Lego" as a plural doesn't sound right. It's just like the brand name Band-Aid (a type of bandage, if you're not from the US); it would be referred to as "Band-Aids" here. The phrase "Lego bricks" works equally well. Chalk it up to differences in languages, I guess.
-
I commented because I'm Australian, and every American seems to call them 'legos'. Just an odd cultural difference, I guess - one of the few places where Australians use trade-names as the Americans do, and it's STILL different!
-
Raa: No...this doesn't have to be unstickied...well..maybe for a while...or...maybe I'll make a new thread...I'm going to be making newer/smaller more buildable models. Probably have a 1stud-1metre sort thing.
As for the "Legos" thing...I call them "Lego". To me it's one of those words that doesn't need an "s" at the end of it...like Moose.
So...ya...new models coming soon! And hopefully I can make instructions for people :)
-

Hey Hey! Score one for the Aussies!
-
The plural Lego, is (apparently) officially 'Lego bricks'.
-
I don't get why the plural can't just be "Legi" (pronouced Leg-eye), it sounds a fair bit better than "Legos" (which sounds suspiciously like a brand of Pasta) and differentiates itself from the singular "Lego"...
-
Or you could just call them legos and not analyze it so much...:doubt:

Legi? Why not simply use 'a piece of Lego' and 'some pieces of Lego'?
-
Because all those extra phonemes are oh-so-complicated........
-
I always felt that plural was lego. As in
Some lego
A lego car
a car made out of lego

...*blink*
...You're a mod Raa?...Since when?!
And the new models will be coming shortly
-
since like 3 weeks ago. and i think he's been misusing his mod powers. :nervous::p
-
...Go back to Warpstorm...they're not done ripping you a new one yet...
Sunflower :)
-
Actually, it is one Lego Brick and many Lego Bricks. Theres no such things as Legos ;)

So says LEGO itself. Except LEGO is always capitalized. :p
But I say Legos anyway. ;)
-
Saying legos seems a lot easier than saying lego bricks or legi. It just sounds easier on the ears imo.
-
If you don't mind me asking, does this thread really need to be stickied?
-
Not anymore. :)
