CHICAGO, Jan 11 (Reuters) - Two private U.S. companies have designs on building the first luxury recreational vehicle that could withstand nuclear radiation.
Parliament Coach Corp., a privately held company in Clearwater, Florida, which converts Prevost buses into high-end RVs, has partnered with Homeland Defense Vehicles to offer consumers a luxury motor coach that can protect occupants against nuclear radiation from dirty bombs as well as biological and chemical attacks.
"Many people enjoy the RV lifestyle, but we also live in an era when people have some level of fear about terrorism," Parliament Chief Executive Harvey Mitchell said in a statement. "These concerns about terrorism are linked to states where people with RVs like to travel."

Ah, scaremongering. Is there anything it can't do?
Oh, that's right, it can't: Reduce crime, fix the budget, reduce pollution, save lives, increase the standard of living, save the Iraqi people......
-
...Save the American people ;)

ICEBERRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRG TO STARBOARD!!!!!! HARD 'A PORT!!

could they nuke proof my ponitac grand prix?
-
they nukeproofed cher :D
-
No... that's just 40 layers of plastic
-
Yeah. They got a few more layers and face-lifts to go to be entirely nuke-proof. :p
Note: By such a statement, I do not mean resisted by me. It will not take another plastic surgery to make me disgusted with Cher.
-
So, that's like if a terrorist decides to nuke....uh....er....hmmm. Anytime nukes are involved, I hardly think of an RV as a very effective deterrent.

And then there's the issues of food, water, and the fact that gamma radiation in any quantity is going to go through pretty much all but the most rediculous radiation shield makes this so impractical that its not worth doing.

It's not in case of a nuke, it's in case of a dirty bomb... you know, a conventional explosive that is used to spread radioactivity...
-
so then we are concerned about terrorists who live in certain states and like to drive RV's?
-
Everyone knows that terrorists love recreational vehicles...
-
I can see yellow suited men walking down the streets looking into the windows of RV's packed like the poster for Shaun of the dead......
:nervous:
-
thats quite possibly the stupidist idea iv ever heard of, not to mentio na waste of money....all you need is my dad's good ol faithful 1985 Volvo ;) thats nuclear proof

Thing is, as gruesome as it sounds, this wouldn't help most people.....
'The vehicles, costing from $1.2 million to $2 million, will be introduced Wednesday at the Tampa Super RV Show in Florida.'
Anyone got $1.2 million++ to spare? So, in that price range we are talking about 'People who live in higher wage brackets in the more at-risk states'.

sure flip, let me cut you a check.....
**steals Shrike's checkbook**
heere ya go pal.....

You could save money by wearing an NBC suit all the time:

-
Cause that'll do you when a shockwave hits.
-
well, you have to stay indoors, natch, but it's cheaper than a million-dollar vehicle which actually will not protect you from the shock either...

I though gamma was stopped by tin foil and it took heavier stuff to block alpha, beta, and the x-rays?

Other way around. Clothing'll stop Alpha, Cement;ll stop beta and several cms of lead will stop Gamma. Dunno about X Rays, but I assume bone'll stop a lot of em, so I can't imagine the requirements being particularly significant.

And there was me thinking the good thing about nuclear was that there wouldn't be any SUV drivers afterwards.......
-
There pretty much won't be any modern vehicles still working, or computers, telephones, aircraft, radar, ships, trains etc. etc. Everything with delicate electronics will be EMP'd to death...

*starts humming the movie theme to Stripes*

I believe the US has in fact developed fax machines which can resist a nuclear blast.
I don't believe they've developed users who can survive a nuclear blast, though.
