Post by: rynadrk on January 13, 2005, 04:30:33 pm
This is a list of Missions and Campaigns for all the releases of TBP that I've found and been able to play (with reasonably few bugs):[# of missions]
Tales of the EAS Janus (R2,C,21) Wheel of Fire Demo (R2,C,6) Earth Minbari War Demo (R3,C,5,Voice) <^^> Raider Wars (R3,C,15) <^^> Mission Pack 1 (R3,M,6) <^^> Movements in the Mist (R3,C,5) Convoy Party (R3,M,1) <^^> In the Line of Fire (R3,M,1) Shadow Dancing (R2,M,1,Ship Pack 1 Required (http://imsuxok.completelyfreehosting.com/files/ShipsPack_1.zip)) <^^> Last Man Standing (R2,M,1) <^^> Heat 'Em Up (R2,C,10) In the Beginning (R2,C,38,Voice (Russian)) <---> Mission Pack (R1,M,17,Not Hosted) <^^> Raiders campaign (R1,C,4,Not Hosted) <^^> Missionsandfx (R2,M,4,Not Hosted)
If anyone else knows of any other complete missions or campaigns for any of the releases write them down. If you have them on your hard drive, we can find a host. If you know of an active link then that's good too.

Well, soon you will count 3-5 new single missions because upcoming two weeks will be free from school for me and tommorow I will finish "Apocalypse" mission ( relase has been delayed due to Half-Life 2 :D )

I hope that the devs will take time to review missions and put them up for download in the missions section. Can/does tales of janus work with R3?

Tales of the Janus works as well as it did in the other releases I'd say. I read that there were problems with the scripting and that you can't get past a certain point. That's as far as I've made it so far.
EDIT: Rather, I ran into the scripting error and had to stop.

There was "In The Beginning" fantastic 38 mission campaign. The Russian/English voice dialog just adds to the intensity of it all. Some missions had bugs but could be past by the death method. I think I only managed to get it working with R2 or R1.

I would like to know which of these missions and campaigns have voice during missions. I know Earth-Minbari war does. Makes missions a lot more playable since it is hard to read text during dogfights. Of course, one can pause with F4 but voice is still better.

Probably none except maybe mission pack 1. I think there even one mission with voices. :D

how do you get that ship pack to work it includes vorlon and shadow ships i downloaded it for r2 and i used fred and all the ships where cool and everything but it didnt work kept saying that there is some error with the vorlon ships

Your best bet would be to contact the author of the said ship pack.
Just keep in mind that when using unofficial content, such as models you risk breaking official content if unofficial overrides the official one. Anything in data or root folder overrides file of same name in .vp files. And alphabetically the first .vp file has priority over next .vp file.

Yes, probs that Janus might represent might be caused by R3, but otherwise if things hasn't changed too much you should be able to get through it, at least with R2 compatiable pack.
If not, if there is somebody who wants to make fixes, do so (maybe contact me first, if you have that polite). I am not FREDing anymore in these days, so all willing to continue Janus do defianently contact me ;)

Does anyone have the "In the Beginning" campaign sitting around somewhere? Maybe it could get hosted on the Bittorrent tracker.

I think he took it down because he didn't want to hear about bugs and also it got out dated. Bugs aside and age, It is a beautful campaign! allot of time went into it like all things here at TBP. Shadow models didn't exist so he somehow changed default Freespace ships too look like shadow ships. I found a back up on one of my old CD ROMS it is a 19 meg .rar file moved back to my HD. What should I do to get it around? I don't think that it is compatable with any other missions or campaigns it over writes everything , maybe anouther reason he stopped access. R3 is the best, I was able to put down the freespace CDs and never need to pick them up again, this definitly is not compatable with R3.

If you can, stick it up anyway. I'd like to have a try at it, and I bet a few other people would like to do it as well. But, I don't know where you would put it.

I tried tbp-bt.com but I am anti cookie. I got nasty viriuses in the past with full cookies on at other sites so my sytem is very much locked down. if you have broadband I can email. In The Beginning really isn't supported.... even by its creator. If you wish I or you can email Mr. Fury to get it hosted, but again 3.0 is the newest version and really this campaign is for historical reference.

Once the Shadow and Vorlon ships are released maybe some of you guys could take the "In the Beginning" under your wing and bring it up to date so that it fully utilises R3? In the same way that some fans did with the similarly excellent "Derelict" campaign for FS.

cookies are not virus vectors. That's another security issue entirely; or more likely an ActiveX exploit.
tbp-bt is just fine. :p

His E-mail (mailto:[email protected]) address.

For those who still is interested in my campaign. In one time I have removed archive as it became damage. I do not know why so happened. But thanking Mr. Fury you can download it here.
In the Begining (http://koti.mbnet.fi/fury/tbp/downloads/In%20the%20Begining.rar)
It is not compatible with R3. I work on it. So do not think that I forgot about it. There are things which were not included in the first release. For example, "Solar strike" operation. EA Force conduct secret work on the mysterious alien's ship found in hyperspace. The English language leaves to wish the best. Probably it will be corrected to the following release. Probably is not.
Missionsandfx (R2, 4 single missions) missionpack (R1, some single missions and one campaign) Raiders campaign (R1 campaign) Movement in the Mist (R1 campaign)

My e-mail is [email protected]. If you can, send me text files (I haven't used FRED in a really long time, so I'd need to learn it again if you wanted me to just edit text inside the missions).
I've never really tried translating stuff before, so I don't know how good I'd be at it. But I'm fluent in both languages, so I hope it won't be too hard.

I just tried out Shadow Dancing with the mod. I really like the shadow ships. They're really well done.
I also tried out Last Man Standing but it needs an EAS Agamemnon model that doesn't exist in R3.
I also just played the In the Beginning Campaign and that one really rocks. I could instantly recognize scenes from the movie just from the ship placement. It's a lot of fun. Although I did run into a error that craps me out to the desktop.

If people are willing I don't mind but I think they learn more from making their own missions from scratch.
Of course the FA Graduates will all have all the skills they need to fix everything and won't be working on a campaign yet so it might be worth just hiring someone when they've done a couple of good missions for the FA to fix things :)

If you want to try runnng Janus I reccomend creating a new folder called Janus with a folder called Data inside it. Anything with the extension .vp goes in Janos. Everything else goes in data.
I'll give you pretty good odds that it won't work though.
The problem is that Tales EAS Janus was made for Release 1 and then Patched for R2.
I very much doubt it will work on R3 without some editing. You might get lucky though :)

Well.. i installed some missions and i got in the mission simulator all the raider campaign (logical sinze i beat the campaign) all mimbary-earth missions (not so logical sinze i still have not beat that one) and some other missions, including one of the EAS Janus?
I miss more missions,i mean, there is a lot of ships in R3, Warlock, Shadow Omega, Drack fighters , Drazy SunHawks , etc that i have not saw in the game..

Make some then. Personally I'd love ot see more misisons for R3. Like you say we have lots and lots of ships. Using FRED is not a black art. It has documentation. Plus there is a forum here frequented by TBP team members who know FRED inside out. All its' bugs and work arounds. So get working on some ideas. Throw some ships in a mission and you're half way there.

Incidentally, there is a recently released FRED2Open build (http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php/topic,31451.0.html) that supports all of TBP 3.1's backgrounds and, get ready for it, will actually show them in the editor. If you're having a problem with backgrounds not being visible, or any problem with FRED2 in particular, you might want to give this version a try if you haven't already. Some issues regarding it have already been addressed so read the thread through if you think you've found a bug.

Shadow Dancing is also for R2. Missions go into data/missions folder. And VP files into TBP main folder.

The TBP staff does not officially support anything else except the official content released by the staff. Authors of unofficial missions and campaigns should write installation instructions for their own missions/campaigns/custom content.
If you politely ask here in the forums, I'm sure you will get help from the community and the staff.
Please refer to this site on how to install FS2/TBP missions, campaigns and custom content. (http://homepage.ntlworld.com/karajorma/freespace/directories.html)

I think everything for TBP 3.0 came in a .vp file, so I believe you have to manually create the "missions" folder yourself. If you're not finding it in the data folder, that's why it's not there. :)

Well if somebody would be intrested to convert Janus on R3 suitable can do that (if intrested contact me), I personaly dont have time or required intrest on upgrades (and above all needed computer to test missions).
Janus at the moment should be pretty compatiable on .VP form, you just need to run it seperatly on TBP stuff (since ship and weapon tables are for R2).

Well back then when they were made (for R1&2) it was extremely obivious where to put the stuff since everybody knew where they went or they could take a peek on folder to see what goes where :doubt:

Making decent missions take time, they're not something you can make over night and R3 is fairly new one, so no wonder that its hard to get missions for it. You need to try to find R2 missions compatiable with R3 (shouldn't be that big difference, but some missions wont work because some ships were removed, well couple Omegas with name plates).
