Title: Command wants a volunteer for a "dangerous mission"
Post by: IcyScythe on January 16, 2005, 03:03:46 pm
There's this one part in the campaign when you're about to join the somethingorother squadron that experiments with new equipement... anyways right before that there's an option screen that comes up and asks whether or not you want to accept a "dangerous mission".

Unfortunately I pressed escape at that point (i wanted to sleep), and when I came back, the screen wasnt there it just threw me into the new squadron missions...

Anyway to backtrack? What is the "dangerous mission" anyways? Does it effect the campaign?

It doesn't affect the campaign, but it affects you as you get to score more points and get more medals.  It's completely optional but a lot of fun to play.

Unfortunately there's no way to backtrack in the game, but I might be able to hack your pilot file for you so that it will backtrack and allow you to select it.  PM me.

From what i think i think that i maby think i know:

The dangerous mission leads into a few missions designed for a few 'soc' 'dangerous misions' loop. After the loop if you choose to do them, you go on with other campaign missions.
If you dont accept the loop, (mission) you go on past the soc ones to reg campaign missions.
I think.

If you're going to hack a campaign file take a look at this (http://homepage.ntlworld.com/karajorma/freespace/gameplay.html). It was specificially written so that you'd know which ships to add to the team loadout.

Well, doesn't effect the campaign is kinda relative, no?  Doesn't the game not offer you a couple of ships in mission loadouts if you don't complete the SOC loop?

Ah, gotta love command's new 'volunteer' policy.  Not like the FS1 days, where they just told you to get in the half functional shivan ship, then go play spy.  And if you're really lucky, they give you the most insane order given in all of FS-dom.

Yeah, all one of em, heh.

No, I mean "Hey, go dock with the thing"  Yeah, right command.  Then what?  Whip out my french-shivan dictionary and ask them where to find the ammo depot?  Dance around in my skivvies and claim to be the ancient shivan god BuruBuru?  Lean out the window and say "Pardon me, have you any grey poupon?"

The first loop gives you the Artemis DH which is basically the original artemis painted black despite what the tech room tells you.

The second loop gives you the GTF Ares which may prove useful if you like its style.

Unfortunately, the second loop also forces you to change your underwear. :p

For the longest time, I thought that was possible. Eventually I even figured out that you can't even enter the docking bay because of an invisible wall :v: modelled into the Lucifer. That was when I lost my innocence with regard to FS missions. :p

Bah... i got into the tubes once... I don't know how, but i actually did... Haven't been able to recreate it...

As for the loop accept screen, its actually at the END of the previous mission, so you HAVE to make a choice before exiting, or it gets logged as a decline...

I tried hacking the Pilot Profiles, but I can't find any .csgs, is it cus I'm using FSO?

You wn't find .csg files with the newer versions of FS2_Open cause they use .cs2 files instead. I don't know if CSGEdit works with those.

If not and you have a problem with a campaign like Goober I can build you custom campaign file pretty quickly :)

Isn't compatible, but seeing as .cs2 seems tp be the work of the FSO Team, they might make an editor in time...

:welcome:

I fixed IcyScythe's campaign with a hex editor.  You just need to know where the next mission and previous mission id numbers are stored.
