Title: Need support...
Post by: GoreChild on January 17, 2005, 01:16:45 am
I have tech support questions about getting Freespace 2 to run properly.

I run XP and directX9 with a Radeon 9700 Pro using Cat 4.11 drivers.

I can start the game ok, but the cutscenes (IE the intro) are choppy though the audio for them is not. Also when I attempt to start a mission, or even go to the loadout screen the game drops to the desktop.

Sorry if this is the wrong forum for this question, if I should ask elsewhere then where should I ask?

Also w00t to my first post.

As for your particular problem, wait a few minutes that someone will pop along to answer your questions. Have a nice stay.

You're doing it again. *begins to swing metal bar*

Someone remind me, what are the movies encoded with? DivX? If it is you might want to think about changing your decoding options so they take less cpu cycles.

And...

Main question.

Retail or Fs2open?

Since he's new and hasn't mentioned where he got the movies from I'm going to assume that he means retail.

Windows XP's Compatability mode might be worth trying if that's the case.

Compatability with what? 95? 98?

And what about the missions not starting correctly(read: at all) I cant even get to the loading screen without a drop to desktop.

AND...thanks for the warm welcome! :D

http://scp.indiegames.us/download.php?view.50

Download and install that to your Freespace2 directory. Run the included Launcher.exe, select fs2_open_3_6_5.exe in the box at the top. Make sure all the settings in the Launcher are set properly, then click "Run".

If you still have problems running Freespace 2, use the same process as above, but use a debug build (http://scp.indiegames.us/download.php?view.47) so that it's more likely to tell you what's wrong.

Both EXEs are part of the FSSCP (http://dynamic6.gamespy.com/~freespace/fsdoc/index.php?pagename=GettingStartedWithFsscp)

I've already told Ed it's broken (some days ago in IRC).

IIRC it has something to do with redmenace, or I don't remember.

Just rest assured, it's being worked on :)

Thanks for the welcome.

Lightspeed, there is seriously only one place...with one link to download this thing? No mirrors?

BTW what is it that I would be downloading?

Actually, there is a mirror. I even searched it that day. Ummm.

As far as I remember, the link is in the 3.6.5 release thread (sticky in the Source Code Project Forums). :)

It is a version of FreeSpace made by the community from the source code of FreeSpace.  It can handle more ships and has a ton of new features, mainly for graphics but it has some extra gameplay elements too.

If that doesn't answer your questions, constructive criticism is welcome. ;)

Here's a direct link to the installer (http://fs2source.warpcore.org/exes/FS2Open_3_6_5-Installer.exe)
