i think theres one in the old freespace kit (vp view tableview, aniview, and some other stuff), i never liked it cause its slow as hell. wordpad is the way to go. not sure if tableview works with any of the new scp features though.

notepad is a failed copy of text editors. wordpad, microsoft works, and microsoft word get my votes.

also, cobra2, there's  a vp editor called VPMage lying somewhere on the web.

Yea, it allows you to make VP files.

Anyway, I'd stick with notepad or go with wordpad. Or you could get all fancy and do word and colorize the text yourself :p

If you have crimson edit, I made a syntax-coloring file for ships.tbl a while back for it:

http://members.cox.net/~wmcoolmon/crimedit.zip

I also started on something that could be a ships.tbl editor with a lot of work:

http://members.cox.net/~wmcoolmon/progs/test_shiplib.exe

its the ship tbl editor work in progress ocoolman or are you working on other things?

As far as being complete, it's something like halfway done. It needs to have the load parsing code updated and expanded (It was never really finished) and the save code needs to be started. The interface also needs to be updated, and if I ever get wxWidgets working it might be more beneficial to simply redesign the graphical frontend from scratch.

Anyway...it's not in-progress right now, I actually stopped work on it awhile back because it's not much easier to fill stuff in than just editing ships.tbl with notepad.

shame as i said i really like the lay out, maybe if i got more used toe ditor in notepad i would agree with you but starting from scratch you program much easier as thing are displayed nicely

i.e. no info overload

actually a table editor has been done many years ago, it was just a simple alternative to notepad without many features. The site (IIRC denebsystem) which hosted it (and some tutorials) is down, and I don't have it on my hd
