Not really.  Looks like it came from the same sort of design style as the Perseus and Myrmidon, however.

Nice, side view is the best as stated above, but I'm sure that design could really grow on me with constant....staring....

In a way, it looks like a Perseus mating with a Myrmidon. :eek2:

woud look way better w/o the delta wings. Don't even think it would need anything else to re-balance the shape ( from top view, at least ). Was ok on one ship, but on all of them, bleh :p
Title: *must learn to finish one project before beginning another*
Post by: Taristin on January 21, 2005, 09:55:30 am
I was thinking the same, for the most part, but I didn't feel it looked balanced without something up top.

Post by: Taristin on January 21, 2005, 01:58:55 pm
Yep, Nico's right. So I ditched the wings...

I've been wanting to not model wings anyway, since just about everything I've made recently has wings. :doubt:

Post by: Nico on January 21, 2005, 03:25:19 pm
Aaaaaaah, now that's more like it :)
Maybe decrease the angle of the pods, to rebalance a bit the front view, that should be enough to make it look more like a light fighter ( since it's probably that, if I imagine the cockpit correctly ). For now it looks like a mini heavy fighter, which is odd... mmh, but another side, it can also be interesting. Ah well, it's good already that way, I think. Just break the line on the back... air intake, make it a curve, not a straight line, with the front end... mmh, that sucks when you don't find the words to explain... hmmm... with the front end, where the opening is, going down, but only on a very short distance, w/o actually making the thing longer, just by changing the shape. If you don't get what I mean, never mind, just consider that some weird thinking and move on :p

I like. Something missing, though.... it needs something on the top, like another weapon pod/engine thingy. Or extend that intake fairing further back. It looks kind of odd with that bit sticking up, then nothing behind it.

Very good, though.

*Raa has never played Decent*

Is that a good thing or a bad thing, the pyro reference? :p
Title: *must learn to finish one project before beginning another*
Post by: Nico on January 22, 2005, 12:15:00 pm
Well I think the Pyro is cool, if that's you wanted to know. One funny thing tho: using reference pics ( especially the D3 intro where you show clearly the pilot's size compared to the ship), I put it in FS2, and the thing is like the complete opposite of FS ships: those are ridiculously large, the GX is ridiculously small. the GL ( the D3 pyro ) is much larger. That was comepltly OT rambling, I know :p

w00t! It's a pof! and the right size! :D

Now to do the pof data, perhaps add decals to the map, and release something for once! :D

Hmm. The cockpit seems a bit ... odd. Maybe it's just the POV in that pic.

***Completely Untested***

Release - GTF Kelpie
(I know, the name sucks, deal with it)

Heavy Assault classification.

Included in the Rar file are the model, the map, the glowmaps, ship icon, shield icon, and a tbm file.

The rest is up to whoever uses it.

Eventually I'll add debris, and decals to the maps, but until then, this is something for whoever to play with.

I hope it gets used.

Oh... err... There's no dockpoint, so it'll probably crash when you call in for support. That'll get fixed later, too. :nervous:

Raa : Since you've not LODded or debris the ships any chance you could release the max file too?

Seems a bit silly that anyone who tries would have to put the ship through PCS and Truespace to get the ship back into MAX.  :)
Title: *must learn to finish one project before beginning another*
Post by: Taristin on January 22, 2005, 04:51:16 pm
Err, I intended to do the Debris and LODs eventually, but if you want to, no problem. I'll PM it to you.
Title: *must learn to finish one project before beginning another*
Post by: karajorma on January 22, 2005, 05:05:45 pm
Don't want to do it myself. I thought you were abandoning it at this point and I was trying to make it as easy as possible for whoever does pick it up to continue.

IF you're going to finish her off then I'm certainly not going to attempt to use my meagre MAX skills on it :)
Title: *must learn to finish one project before beginning another*
Post by: Taristin on January 22, 2005, 05:08:06 pm
I wasn't abandoning it. I was giving a releaswe so that if I forget about it, others will still have it. Since I tend to have catastrophic crashes and lose everything almost bi-annually. :blah:
Title: *must learn to finish one project before beginning another*
Post by: karajorma on January 22, 2005, 05:20:03 pm
Ah. My bad then :)

*I still downloaded the MAX file in the PM though* Yoink! :D

GTF Losna

Release Candidate Alpha

Contained in the Rar:

Model
Maps
tbm file

Known Issues:

Cocpit not set up to be transparent
Cocpit does not render correctly with transparent glass (fixed by above)
No debris (Though this ship does have dockpoints)

This ship is set up with 3 primary and 3 secondary banks. However, the table restricts the player to two primary and three secondary. If you use this ship for an enemy combatant, then it can have three primaries, IIRC.
But until the SCP Team codes in tertiary primary banks, the player will be stuck with only two.

And now the download file:

Test it, Enjoy it.

***I do NOT recommend you try this model with the visible cocpit builds of FSO.***

While tempting (and I have tried it) Visibility is nill, and the cocpit is renderred oddly.

Edit: hissy fit removed

Closed upon request of Raa.

Update: And also re-opened upon request.

Since this thread is back, I'll put it back where it belongs.  Both models look great Raa, I really like the style of the Losna, but they both look great.  Since I've already downloaded them both, all I can do is hope they actually get finalized with lods and all.

Most excellent!
Exactly what I was looking for for CCCP.

If you did one more you could have all three basic fighter designs (Interceptor, Space Superiority and Assault) and be well on your way towards a new faction. They're certainly distinctive enough for it.

So, when do yopu start something else? You have a syndrom to comply with, you know :p

Now there's an idea..... Get working Raa! ;)

Love the ships, by the way - I'm going to wait for finished versions before I download, but they're excellent.

Admins: can I call for a sticky or a highlight or something? These are that good, and this thread is quite old, so it might get missed....

Pyro: The Kelpie is Done.  The thread was here: http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php/topic,29877.0.html

About making an entire faction... well... I'm currently doing two. One for TVWP and one for Origins. I don't know what can be shown and what can't, tho. Since I just made and mapped two more ships for his fleet.
