http://www.cnn.com/2005/SHOWBIZ/TV/01/20/sponge.bob.reut/index.html
I'll leave it to the more politically-minded of you out there (i.e., trolls) to turn this thread into a flamewar, but before I do, I thought I'd point this out.
On the CNN main page there's a QuickVote poll with the following options. SpongeBob Squarepants is:
a) promoting acceptance of homosexuality
b) promoting tolerance and diversity
c) absorbent, yellow, and porous
As of right now, "C" is -far- in the lead, with over 101,000 votes.

Oh, for the luv of (some) god.. It's just a freakin' (stupid) cartoon...
-
Bizarre...
(But seriously, who didn't know that SpongeBob was gay? :p)
-
Yeah, and Captain Planet was used to promote environmentalist propaganda. :p
Seriously, I believed ever since that show came out that there was a homosexual message behind it anyway.
-
You know you live in a country full of nutters when...
-
I'm not really concerned about the fact that it's gay or promoting that it's good to be gay or whatever. I'm more concerned that the entire concept of Sponge BobAssPants is mind numbingly idiotic and stupid (sorry fans).
I hope the Christians kill it for whatever reason, as long as the trash is off the air.
-
It's a children's cartoon. It's aimed at the under-12s for crying out loud. It's supposed to be ridiculous. I'd be more inclined to want stuff like Big Brother and American Idol and all that sort of mindless, low-brow ****e off the air.
Anyway, yes, it's got some gay innuendo. Who gives a toss? It's entertaining for little kids, and it'll make their parents laugh as well. Except obviously not in this case, because said idiot parents are going "OMG gayness!!!11 We must ban it or our kids will like men!!!"
Only in America, eh? :doubt:

What exactly are the 'gay overtones' anyway?

Blatant double-entendres...

If they want to watch kid's cartoons as opposed to Big Brother 47 then surely that's a good thing? If they actually notice said gayness, then at least they're thinking about an actual issue rather than vegetating slowly...
-
so what is next......call the powerpuff girls dominatrix's?
-
In 1999, the Rev. Jerry Falwell described Tinky Winky, the purse-toting purple Teletubbie, as a gay role model.
Just cause he carrys a handbag
...and speaks in a high pitched voice
...and sleeps in a room with 3 other men
...
I think I'll stop now :)

It's not suitable even for an infant. It is mind-numbingly retarded, and it does not deserve the time it gets on TV.
Anyone who puts that kind of garbage into circulation, should be put in front of a firing range for commiting crime against humanity.

All I can say is;

Every friggin conservative in the US is an uptight, uncompromising wackjob, and, I'm sorry to say, so are all the extremo liberals on this forum (which numbers in the "a lot" category).

"Their inclusion of the reference to 'sexual identity" within their 'tolerance pledge' is not only unnecessary, but it crosses a moral line," James Dobson, founder of Focus on the Family, said in a statement released Thursday.

*points and laughs*

I guess I haven't watched enough...never understood what the problem was. Its just another annoying kids cartoon that some find entertaining.

Now... where's the 'I wish these 'adults' would grow up and stop propogating their fears' option? :doubt:

rofl.
lol@ Corsair especially.
I kinda like SpongeBobSquare pants.
Its so stupid you can't laugh.
Best if you have a few drinks first, and have a screwed sense of humour as well. :p
But I would'nt say there are any gay promotion in the actual episodes.
And if they send something to U.S. kids I doubt it will make a difference anyway, most of them will all still grow up to be fear addicts.
Call themselves humanitarians yet if something bad happens in the world without their assistance they won't do much to help. (Hints at tsunami incident and lack of immediate donations).
