Every new build keeps getting better and better. You guys have done some AMAZING work - FS2 now is way better than some brand new space sims!:D
Just looking at these new builds makes my mouth dry - increased fighter in wings, surface shields, 3d models in weapon selection and lots more!
*bows to the code-wizzards*
Any chance we can see a build featuring all these things together (and a bit polished up) anytime soon ?

Me too... :(
Still, TrashMan has a point here - soon FSO will look even better than X2 (if it not already does so) if it keeps progressing at this rate. :D
-
Bah, they need to fix bugs before :D
*runs*
-
They do keep on getting better and better. Soon Freespace 2 will rule the world!
-
The only things, where X2 looks better are Shadows and Bump Mapping...
But I think that this will be in SCP somewhen, too! :D
-
Shadows was the first thing I turned off in X2 because it killed my FPS in big battles.
-
we need shaders
i'll leave it at that

Geez, that was a good one.
Even retail would match that criteria. X² reached a record of lame graphics yet unsurpassed.
-
the engine, not the funny looking helmet ships :p
X^2's got bumpmapping :p
-
Geez, Lightspeed, what did X2 ever do to you? :wtf:
I've watched the demo video they've got and it looks MUCH better than retail. Bumpmapping is really the only big thing that it has over fs2_open, though. Otherwise they're pretty much neck and neck as far as graphics are concerned. (The lensflares on engines look nice, but I didn't notice a whole lot of envmapping going on...)
Edit: And yes, shaders. AFAIK shaders would let us implement bumpmapping and shadows have been done (But doing a *good* implementation of them would take a long time, and Bobb's busy with other stuffs atm)

The engine got "THE SUCK". Never seen such a slow, and ugly game engine before. The way it renders its sun images and "volumetric nebulae".... absolutely hilarious.
It's such a damn rush job, BOTH engine and content, that it isn't even funny anymore.
-
X² has a good engine.
There are some ugly parts in it though. Some backgrounds are ugly, as they are low-res. But I think there was no way around this. The game just had to save some memory.
The bumpmapping is nice.
Some ships are really good designed. The effects are ok. Though, if you have ever used 3DS you'll notice that the sun and thruster effects are the standard lensflare effects of MAX.
Which is rather cheap for a full price game.
But they still look awesome.
What I like most is the fact that big ships really look big.

I don't have hat but good work guys :)
-
I only really like the Argon ships, the rest I don't like at all.
But enough OT. Hats off to the SCP developers. :)

Some parts of the engine are really good. (Probably not the hardware requirements though ;) )
