Hiya... I have the following error when the FS2 main campaign is loading the first mission with the Knossos Subspace portal. It crashes with the following.
Error: Can't open file

I have/
Freespace 3.6.5 launcher.
mv_core
Mv_textures
Mv_ad effects
MV_effects
MV_Aseffects
MV_models
all downloaded from the links provided under the launcher page. I followed the guide and stuck them in their own file and pointed the launcher to them. All seemed well... got the decent glowmaps, high res textures, new beam cannons etc.... and then the above crash.
Any help would be appreciated. Having seen the new beam cannon in effect and the cool explosions I really wanna see it running the rest.

It's a bug with the texture pack. Look for the temporary workaround in that thread.

More effective fix: Get the cruiser03x.pof from LS's most recent SHineLT release and stick it somewhere in your fs2 directory tree.
Unfortunately that release happens to be 90 MB. Perhaps I'll start DLing it while I'm busy this afternoon/evening.

No, I've gotten it. :) Just a matter of getting it in mv_textures.vp now.

This is going to sound really stupid, but I'm confused.
So, what exactly do I have to DL?
Where does it have to go?
In the Freespace models directory? Or the directory where I'm keeping all the source mod information?

What do you think the Temporary Fix is? :lol:
I simply put it in a VP file so that it didn't get shoved in the data folder and forgotten about :D
Hobnob What you want is this file (http://homepage.ntlworld.com/karajorma/freespace/Downloads/Kara_Temporary_asEffects_Workaround.rar). Download it. unrar it (using WinRAR or winAce) and shove the .vp file in your main FS2 folder.

How about this:
- Lightspeeds nebulas don't show up on the background in FRED (no nebulas show up actually)
- FRED bugs something about Alpha1, Gamma3 or Beta 2 not being a player ship? Saves normally, but still bugs.
- unsusual slowdowns whenever looking at most ships engines.

Well, the fix let the game load... but I seem to be shooting a cain class crusier... that looks like a mass of twisted metal.
I presume this is due to the fix LOL... cause everything else looks okay.
