This wouldn't be much more than a list of people who play Freespace often, and have ample enough experience to make a good effort at solving problems on their own.
What mods would do would be to 'sponsor' particular builds - that is, they'd select a build with a set of features they'd want and submit it to an online list, along with a representative who'd handle problems/bugs that come up. Presumeably, the mod rep would figure out workarounds via SEXPs, nag coders, or write a troubleshooting FAQ on problems that come up for the mod release.
When any given build no longer has a mod sponsoring it, testers would be notified of such so they could move on to another build.
From a thread in the internal asking about better fs2_open beta-testing. There've been a couple attempts at this in the past but they've pretty much fizzled out, the above is an idea I had to try and keep things organized enough to be useful, but unorganized enough so that people wouldn't be required to spend all their FS time beta-testing something they didn't want to to be a part of the testing group.

Sounds like a good idea

I'm game.
I couldnt help to fix the coding issues but I could sure report and help weed out the ones that are machine hardware related.
With the sudden increase in SCP activity this is probably a good idea.

im always happy to test features that i use in my mod, but my first priority is to the mod. most of the features ive wanted are already part of the game but when i see something cool i can use, bob's animation code for example, il hop on to test it. i admit i dont spend as much time in mantis as i should.

I'm always quick to download a new build or feature anyway so I would be happy to be an official guinea pig.

Count me in ;)

This is quite important for TBP because we're planning to release updated bases often. But we cannot just take a random build out of CVS and include it, we need to be sure that features that are used by default will work. While the official 3.6.5 build is probably the most bug-free at the moment, even it does have some minor but annoying bugs. Which I am unable to reproduce myself and thus cannot mantis them. And of course, even we want to make use of the most recent and cool features. Especially the one that we're not permitted to talk about yet. ;)

no, it's about [deleted for cleanliness reasons] which will be awsome and improve the standerd of living throught alph- er, make FS_O a much better game.
I'll be in, anyone know of some good tips for bugtesting? I'm somewhat of a newb.

So.....
Is this gonna happen or no?

I was just floating the idea, I didn't really expect anyone to actually volunteer. :p
There are a few different ways to organize it, it'll need some scripting stuffs to be done properly, unless there's someone who could handle coordinating everything on a day-to-day basis (I can't).
Next week I'll probably be a lot less busy IRL than I am now, so I'm holding off til then.
