Title: An error porting FS1 to FS2
Post by: EAD_Agamemnon on January 24, 2005, 10:50:08 pm
I got the port, and all files sent where they need be...

I make a new char just for the purpose of playing FS1 missions in FS2...
I select The Main Freespace Campaign...
Just as its about to load, I get this:

Error: Can't open file
File\Languages\Visual Studio Projects\Visual C+++\fs_open\code\model\ModelRead.cpp
Line: 1543

I experimented using the retail fs_open and I get get to the 1st mission, but I'm stuck using a Ulysses and no weapons.

Maybe I missed something somewhere, maybe not. Any help please?

Have you got the media vps or any custom .tbl's installed?

The Ulysses only thing I seem to recall being a sign of a problem with the .tbl files.

I have no custom .tbl files installed. Only thing I have installed are other .vp files but those dont get in the way.

I got the weapons tbl open, and have been looking at it...not that I expect to find the problem as I don't know squat about programming. But about the HORNET missiles, was there a slightly advanced version later on in FS2? I dont mean the tornado either.
Think maybe something got named wrong?

One of the thing the SCP did was upgrade some of the missile models.

By any chance, do you have mv_aseffects.vp installed?  that would likely do it.

As in cause it.  I'm pretty sure mv_aseffects.vp contains tbls.  They would defintely screw you up.

How could that cause the probelm when I dont even got that .vp?
Unless its hidden somewhere.

EDIT: I dumped the FSPORT weapons.tbl into DATA/TABLES directory and the game loaded the first mission okay....
Going to temporarily remove the core INFERNO vp to see if that makes a difference...
Remembered I had that in there after my fighter died into an inerno-style fireball...
EDIT2: Removing it didnt solve the problem...

Wait a minute, you've got inferno installed too?  No just retail FS2 and the media VPs?

Yes I also have INFERNO R1.

The game will load now since I put the weapons.tbl from FSPORT 2.3 in it...but starting with a ulysses with no usable weapons is annoying.
The ML-16, Disruptor (not the D-Advanced which you only get in the caputre Dragon mission), and the MX-50, all of which are unusable on the Ulysses.

I see.  Well, I don't know much about inferno, but they certainly have plenty of new content, which means there has to be some new tables in there somewhere.

Are you keeping the individual mods in subfolders, and activating them via the mods option in the launcher, or all they all sitting in your base install directory?

No. The mods are in .vp form, which I can switch between in CAMPAIGNS.
Im just figuring there is a glitch somewhere in the fsport....however I'm going to see if it is going to effect SILENT THREAT in the same way...

Ah.  You really should move the individual mods to their own subfolders, and activate them through the launcher.  A vp file is essentially a big pack of lots of other files, and if it's in your root directory, the game will try to load it.  You'll end up getting incompatibilties where the game is loading files from one mod and they don't work with other mods.

Maybe that explains why then that most of the weapons when I load SILENT THREAT are incompatible (i.e. Banshee, Phoenix V, Interceptor).

I'll try that.
