Title: A far-from-typical build
Post by: Goober5000 on January 25, 2005, 06:43:07 pm
It's the latest and greatest Secret Build!  But you'll have to figure out what's so secret about it. ;)

It includes the latest stuff from CVS, so it's got plenty of bugfixes and such.

That probably is the difference. :p

Do you hate us all again, Goober? Or is this a continuation of the previous hatred? :p

Better lighting on ships from what I can tell. There is a command line in the graphics tab in the launcher that says enable more realistic lighting.

@WMC: It's a continuation, with bugfixes and most recent CVS. ;)

@Lynx: It was "released" in January... what comes in February is the public announcement. ;)

I find it very amusing that Turambar and Lynx are asking what it is. :D

That's from my builds.  I just added it to the launcher so it's easier to use.  OpenGL only though so it has no affect in D3D.  According to MSDN D3D already does it by default.  It may end up being turned on by default and a cmdline option to turn it off (for the speed increase) will be used instead.  Then it could be used with OpenGL and D3D and have the same affect.

I have squashed a subtle yet annoying bug into an elegant binary pulp.  I suggest you all download the build again.  (Same link.)

@Nuke: It's being thoroughly tested by the project leaders. :p

@Drew: It's apparent in-game.  Very apparent. :drevil:

Okay... I've seen some little things, but I don't think that they are this thing...
One thing I've noticed is in the mission briefing and in the tech room (you can hear it ;) ) - But I think there were builds that had this, too...

The other thing were in the ship selection screen... But this is too little for beeing such a big thing...

And I thought I could saw a little difference in the missions... (Is it something texture related?)

But for now... Nothing too suspicious...

Post by: Moonsword on January 26, 2005, 07:55:42 am
Goob, I just got one of the most (*censored*) crashes I've ever seen.  I'm going to look at something in the techroom (no Intel part, by the way) when it crashes with an error in modelread.cpp.  The filename was made up of characters that aren't part of the English language and there was no extension...
Title: A far-from-typical build
Post by: Singh on January 26, 2005, 08:18:38 am
ive got a problem too.

Once you fail a mission, or generally have to restart it, the bar loads to full, but then i get no response!  It just stays there at fully loaded, without moving forwards into the game/briefing at all!

:/

Mhmm, I'm at work, so I can't test this. But if it includes taylor's OGL spec-mapping, I'm satisfied. ;)

Another bug.  The Maxim doesn't work in singe player, in the first Vasudan mission... 'Serapis cannot carry Maxim weaponry' error...

Ok, apart from causing the game to crash after every 2nd mission, whats different?
Title: A far-from-typical build
Post by: phatosealpha on January 26, 2005, 09:20:33 pm
Hmm.  Very hard to tell.  There seems to be something different about the lighting in D3D, but that may just be cause I'd gotten used to playing it on OGL with Taylor's RLM.  The new loadout stuff is in, but that's been in the last couple of builds too, doesn't exactly seem like a big secret.

It's probably the table error that's been talked about again and again.  Remove the mediaVPs one by one and see what happens.

Post by: FireCrack on January 27, 2005, 11:58:00 am
Goob, i think whatever you've done is too wildly unnoticable. Mabye it's noticable to you becasue you know what your looking for.

Like when they were playtesting levels for the origininal halflife, the level designer found the solution to some puzzle so easy but a playtester owuld be stuck there for hours, this prompted redisign.

Ofcourse redisign isnt the case here becasue the only puzzle is finding out what in the world is new in this build.

(oh, and just incase you want to know, i havent tried it yet, i have exams, my last being today. Will try this afternoon)

It was mv_aseffects.vp.  Is there any chance we could get that bug chased down?

Oh... Someone mentioned that this build crashes after every second mission...

Well... On my PC EVERY 3.6.5 and later builds crashes after one or two missions...
It's annoying but not too terrible...

The good things prevail ;)

"show ship" ship flag.

The thread was in FS Modding, called "WHY!?!?!?!?!?" or something similar. It wasn't too long ago, probably on the first three pages.

Edit: Dug it up for screenshots - http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php/topic,29629.0.html

The table bug where the Maxim gets randomly disabled... I've had this one for months, and it's not constant...
