Title: Got a system that's close to stated minimum system reqs?
Post by: Fury on January 26, 2005, 03:34:27 am
In other words a system like this:
- Intel Pentium 3 600 MHz / AMD Athlon 600 MHz
- 256 MB RAM
- nVidia GeForce 256 32MB / ATi Radeon 32MB

If you have one or one really close, can you tell us how well TBP performed on this system?

Just because System Shock 2 caused it to melt.

I play TBP and, ofcourse, FS2 with really low-end system. It's pretty far from those specs, except I have 256 MB RAM. With low detail I can play TBP. If I don't mind little slowdowns :sigh: But it's so great mod. Wish I could buy new vidcard. FS2 runs much better than TBP, though.
And do not ask my specs. My PC is antique. :(

I could try it on my gf's machine, P3 700, GF2MX, 256 MB. But that won't happen before next week.

My system is Duron 800 / 256 mb ram / nVidia TNT 32 mb ...
Well, after i've reduced number of stars, unchecked most graphical options in launcher and set 16 bit color i could run TBP under 1024*768 pretty fast. But before that game had hang up the whole system by every simple move even under 640*480*16. I've tryed OpenGl mode, but it was something wrong with the lights ingame (always too dark). Thats all for now, sorry for my English.

Intel Pentium 3 600 MHz
256 MB RAM @100 mhz
ATI Radeon 9000 64MB ddr

Runs just fine in "custom" detail mode: 1024x768 high detail mode selected first and then turned off "planets/backgrounds".
For some reason the planets in the background give me a slideshow.  This was especially noticeable in the destroy the raider asteroid mission.  It wasn't the raider asteroid itself, I turned off planets/backgrounds and played the mission again with no slowdowns.
Strangely enough, in the last mission of the earth-minbari war campaign planet earth still displayed and didn't bother my computer at all.  Maybe they were using a different way to show planets there, because I could see stars on it.
Oh, and the destroy the raider base on the planet surface also ran just fine for me.

Here's my system:
AMD Athlon 64 2,4 Ghz
1024 RAM
ATI Radeon 9600 XT 256 MB

No problem at all, though some major battles with lot of capships can cause some little slowdown. Overall, plays perfectly with all Launcher good activated.

Oh yeah almost forgot, my resolution is 1024*768

I've played b5 on:
- AMD Duron 750 MHz
- 256 MB RAM
- nVidia GeForce 2  64MB

I've set 1024x768 in 16 bit color with only set -glow and spectacular in graphical options. Game runs quite good only slowdowns i had when near my  was an explosion, when Ii turn to place where was lots of ships and something jumps in.

Sys specs.
P3 600mhz
384mb ram 100mhz
Radeon 9200 128mb

Running in 1024x768 in 32 bit.

No CTD as of yet, which is what impressed me.
I have much better luck in D3D mode.
In D3D  11fps  up to 46 fps
Did have minor slowdowns  but, not bad at all.

In OpenGL 9 fps up to 21 fps
I really dig the specular lighting in this mode, its awsome
Game is choppy, experianced major slowdowns.
One engine glow is shown as white boxes on the starfurries, hyperion and freighters.
(edit) forgot to mention the warp effect starts out as a white box as it opens, then the white box dissapears, leaving the warp effect in tact.  I`m not sure of the cause of the white boxes though..

But still i`m impressed guys, you are doing a superb job.. Keep up the great work :D :D

Yep i got super crapy computer and can run the game super smooth. Except whent heir si a super big explosion with the break up of a ship. Then its gets a bit slow but doesnt last very long. I am running the game on custom level details.

Celeron 600 Mhz
384 MB SDRAM 133Mhz
64 MB GeForce4 MX 440 64 MB DDR
Sound Blaster Live 1024
HDD 20,5 GB 7200 rpm

640*480 16 bit custom detail = max. texture detail and model detail the rest set to 2 or higher, target view off

Smooth without major slowdowns with 20-30 fighters and a few capships...
