I liked the old Inferno explosions. I like them even more now that the SCP vps have bloody planar explosions on everything. I was wondering if you guys had higher-res versions of your explosions that wouldn't stick out so much on capital ship scales? I'm using a custom.vp atm with some of the Inferno effects, but they're quite old now and I'm no good with photoshop etc etc... Bless the fans of non-petrol, non-Hollywood explosions? :)

I doubt they'll release their explosions. I guess you'll just have to wait until R2 comes out...

The R1 explosions?
Those were created with a program called Illusion, which unfortunately I don't have so it isn't possible to create higher res versions of those explosions.
R2 only uses 1 of the R1 explosions right now, the rest have been replaced. Though we aren't using high res ani files, since they kill framerates too much.

Seeing this made me go back to see the R1 explosions...
They kick @$$ compared to the ones that came with FS2...
I'm gonna export the .ani files and stuff to the regular game (atm I got it set up where I'm using exp05 from FS2 retail for all weapons impacts)...Looks cool but R1 stuff looks better.
Especially the way I set everything....they die in a FS2 shockwave (fighters will unless you hit them hard enough for them not to)....R1 rocks.
Hmm...Now I gotta see what goodies TBP has again...

This is the best one I was able to come up with.
Personally I think the stock explosions look better, but everything has to be "Inferno-exclusive". ;)

Well the more of the original FS2 files we replace the better it is for us...

So now Inferno has bright orange explosions with planar rings too? ****.
How hard can it be to make my own...

That radial shockwave explosion looks great when capital ships are exploding, but rather odd when a small fighter goes bang. It's a shame the engine doesn't support customizable explosions

Creating explosions is very complicated.
I've created this one using a particle system.
And I do really like the small shockwave around it.
It looks pretty boring without the shockwave.
I'd like to add shockwaves to all explosions, cause I really liked these things in WC5 and Starlancer.

i liked the poof of smoke that appeared when a fighter exploded... that was a VERY nice touch...

We all know you like the planar ring, DaBrain; they're everywhere these days :)
You use a particle system and make an ani? That sounds a lot harder than what I was planning... and all I want is a few flashes, an expanding cloud of superheated metal, and a breaking up ship. None of the 'petrol bomb' style stuff: playing old Inf showed me how cool (on a fighter scale, at least) watching a missile claw up behind a jinking fighter, have a flash, and the fighter turns into bits with some smoke. BANG, you're dead. Not lingering, wreakage-obscuring fireballs. Its just taste, I guess.

The particle system was used for the creation, the explosion is flat like all other effects in-game.
I can imagine a good explosion, but I've neither the money, nor the time to create an explosion on FS2 level.
In addition I think it's not worth the trouble anyway. ;)
This thing looks fine, but I might come up with a better one later.
But it's better if you don't expect too much.
