I'm of two minds about a ship I've made, and, rather than destroying flowers in my quest for answers, I thought I'd throw myself at the mercy of the forum.
Anyway, the question is, obviously enough, whether the ship has that elusive quality of Vasudanimity. I've attatched the 3ds file so you can judge for yourself. It's supposed to be a gunship, with a single, weak beam mounted on the tail, and maybe a half dozen smaller anti fighter turrets scattered around. If it doesn't seem vasudan enough, I wont be scrapping the model, I'll just use it as the capship base for my El Nathi (Who still don't have even a single cap yet).
So... Vasudan or El Nathi?
(The "tail" points forward, for the record).

I don't have a veiwer installed right now, so screenies?
-
Well, the engine slit is certainly not Vasudan. Beyond that, it could be made Vasudan with proper texturing, but has none of the classic design trends of Vasudan vessels. I'd say make it for your new race, since it's distinct enough.
-
It's very, very close to Vasudan, and with just a little work could be made perfectly Vasudan.
Here's what I see as the main thing to alter: make the overall curves smoother, so that it feels like it is all one piece.
Look at the Sobek, for example. The curve of its overall shape is unbroken: it widens and the head then tapers to the neck, and the flares out at the tail in a way that feels like a single clear overall curve.
What you have here is very close. The hull is all nicely curved with no straight edges or flat sides, so you have that down perfectly. Mostly what needs to change is the "tail." Right now, the tail has three distinct segements: the part that sticks back, the part that hangs down, and the part that points forward. Alter this so that it doesn't feel segemented, but instead like a single thing that wraps around underneath, and you have a winner. :)
Edit: Oh, and ditch the little fins.

Pics don't really show it too well... It's a fairly simple, but unusual shape.

It has a certain feel to it, animalistic almost, that most Vasudan ships don't really...
In a way I'm almost tempted to say Inferno Ancients, because those ships had that kind of sweeping, sea-creature feel too, but I have Ancients on the brain from current FREDding work.
El Nathi, probably.

I can accept everything but the bottom thing that wraps around, as being Vasudan. The Bottom part makes it.... different. The top would need a little more structure, though... Maybe a more defined shape...
-
It certainly looks Vasudan to me. in order to negate the ancient effect you should probably take off the fins on the top. The bottom part looks pretty good to me. It may be good to put a light capship beam on the tip of the wraparound tail.

Welcome to HLP!
And that's just what he was thinking of doing, actually (ICQ).

Thank You! I feel welcomed already!

In this I agree. In MY OPPINION (so don't dwell on it), the ship is awensome, it's just the "tail" that kinda ruins the conception.

It's the GVGS Flipper!

I think sting or manta ray when I see it.
-
Looks Cardassian. With horns.
-
Top is in Vasudan style  ...with bottom look like some kind of StarTrek weapon:p
-
I agree with Raa. It's the lower section that throws the spanner in the works - a hybrid ship, perhaps?
Oh and welcome, KappaWing. :)
:welcome:

Hmmmmmmmm... If the Vasudans made a Hades-type vessel, it'd be that shape ;)
-
Currently not Vasudan.
-
Ancient :D
-
Looks more shivan than vasudan to me. Mabye the front part could be part of a vasudan fighter.
-
I second the Ancient nomination

It's another Terran-Vasudan hybrid ship a la GTF Ulysses only this time its a gunship! (why not!? the GTF Ulysses is an incredibly well designed craft and was ahead of its time when it was made...if something THAT good came out of Mekhu Enterprises & Triton Dynamics working together...think about what the two could be capable of NOW, with all the GTVA's advancements since the GTA days... :)
