Post by: Unknown Target on January 27, 2005, 06:26:50 pm
What gas pistol should I go for?

Right now, I'm debating between one of these:

Or two of these:

What exactly is air-soft?

I'm assuming it's just guns that use compressed air to shoot pieces of plastic barely fast enough to put someone's eye out, and nothing nearly as powerful as an air-rifle.

same as paintball without the mess. it requires players to use the honor system and play dead when they get hit. the game originated in japan hence the honor system. ive never actually played airsoft, i tend to stick with laser tag arenas because they just look cool and i dont have to put up with alaska's piss poor weather. me getting one of those $9000 airsoft gatling guns would porbibly change my mind about that :D

So basically, instead of being hit with paintballs that hurt like hell and cover you in goo - you get hit with a solid lump of plastic that hurts even more but leaves no goo?

I was talking to an aquaintance a while ago, and I feel bad I wasn't around in the forceswhen they started training in CQB with Simunition. (Refering to the Canadian Forces here - the use of the MILES system is still limited due to the expense and the Governments and Canadian public's lack of will to push for adequate spending. Though with the recent publicized events of the Chicoutimi and the Sea Kings being replaces, some initial steps are being taken to restructure the CF. Still a lot to figure out and a lot more needed.)

Check it out.

Though I'm kind of glad I didn't try it because they weren't wearing any body protection, and some guys got bruised pretty badly, and got their uniforms nicely shredded in places. Still, at least finaly not firing blanks off makes you train a lot more carefully, make sure you cover properly, and remain tactical and not be Mr Rambo. Not to mention actually feeling a projectile whiz by your head (thankfully 'non-lethal').

Anyways, I've only ever played lazer tag. I'm more interested in markmanship. I've been looking to getting myself a Beeman air rifle to replace my POS Marksman Trainer, but unless I get a firearms license I'm restricted to rifles with less than 500fps mussle velocity.

Well, i managed to get off topic. :)

Cheers!

im thinking about getting a pistol grip punp antion 12 gauge and joining the local gun club.

id imagine the airsoft pellets hurt less as they have a much lower mass than a paintball. drag would have a more profound effect on the pellets and although they have less drag than a paintballthey would require much less drag force to decelerate.i base this assumption on nothing.

So, anyone who actually played it wanna enlighten us? Is it a mosquito bite or a smaller, slightly slower bullet.?

Much slower than a bullet.  If your clothes are thick enough (jeans, BDUs), you'll feel it, but it likely won't hurt unless you're at close range.  Bareskin can leave smal welts, but nothing super painful, unless you get hit in the face.

I only casually play, but I can send you over to the group I usually play with, they might be able to help you:

It's fun, but KEEP THE GOOGLES ON!

How about something like this ;7

What I've heard (and tried) USP's are quite comfortable in hand and pretty good in average.

A friend of mine had two USP Blowbacks once (dunno he still might have them) and was quite pleased.

So I'd propably go with Dual UHC's... looks similiar to USP.

'Duel' would require two people with one weapon each - 'Dual' on the other hand, could be interesting..

[color=66ff00]I've been fairly slowly working on this for the last while: M.I.L.E.S. (lightbrain.8m.com/mtdesign.htm)

Should be a good laugh once (if?) it's finished.

BTW are you aware that a real minigun eats about six dollars of ammo a second? That fact still makes me laugh.

on the ground gatling guns make little sence really (cept for the ocasional hummer mounted gau-17). in the air however they make a great deal of sence. when the f4 phantom came out it was the first fighter that had no gun. pilots didnt like this and they had a 20mm gatling gun pod built that would fit on one of the missile hardpoints. anyway during combat testing they engaged 3 migs, one of which was shot down by a $25,000 sidewinder missile, the other two with the gun, which cost about $800 apiece. ever sence then every fighter, f22 included, has a 20mm gatling gun :D it only takes 6 20mm phalanx cannons to defend the uss ronald reagan, as oposed to the 20+ point defence guns on WWII carriers..

I thought the F22 wasn't shipped with a gun, because it would reveal it's position through heat signature?

Anyway, looks like I might have to settle for a spring shotgun-type gun for a bit :( Oh well. Gonna work to afford a FAMAS AEG :D

EDIT: Looked at the specs, the F22 does have a gun :)

yea its got the same 20mm cannon all fighters do. i think it has some kind of closable gunport on it. i saw an f/a-18 at an airshow, its gun was hidden behind a 2 inch gunport, which exposed only the firing barel.
