Which one!!!
The SanDisk costs less and gives me twice the memory, however I have an iRiver and know how great the sound quality is, but I am not sure about the sound quality of the SanDisk...
-
Buy a ****in' iPod.
-
No, I don't need that much space.
-
Do you ever use .OGGs? It looks like the sandisk can't do them but the iRiver can.
-
I can convert any file I need to, so thats probably not an issue. I'm just not sure about the Sandisk whereas I am sure about the iRiver.
-
find a friend who has a sandisk and test it out for a few days.
-
I've had IRiver for almost two years now and I must say that even though it's a flash-128, it still rocks.

indeed, just be sure to get the 40 gig

I have this, about the same sort of thing:
http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/B0002YC7H8/ref=pd_sbs_e_3/102-6706009-9413757?v=glance&s=electronics&n=172282
Does everthing these two do, same sort of price.
The only things i can really find wrong with it is that the interface is a bit confusing at first, and there isn't an option to make your own playlist. Its got all sorts of playlist options, random, repeat, random folder etc, but changing between albums can isn't as smooth as it could be, especially when you are in the middle of doing something. This is a bit of a pain, but my old mp3 player could only really hold 1 album, 512MB is a big jump up.
Other than that is does everything. Sound quality is great, but get a reasonable pair of headphones.
-
I have vote iPod too - there's enough varieties to find something you'll like
-
You're not one of those people who think compressed music should be 128kbps, do you? If not, 512MB wont hold ****. Get a device with a harddrive. 10 gig is a start, but not very good when you want to store multiple discographies.
-
Based on looks alone, cause I read this at 4 am instead of sleeping, I would get the iRiver. It looks cooler and has more buttons and a nice backlit screen. ...good night
-
neither, get an MP3 compatable CD player.
-
*is a very happy iRiver SlimX owner*
-
Those things are expensive, unreliable, and crap quality. If you want to play MP3s, use an MP3 player. Not a CD player.
-
Get a Creative player, i've found them pretty good for the cost (plus i've got a custom MVP edition :p)
-
*pats his CD player and CD collection* We've got no fair use policy in Australia, so we can't legally make a copy of the music we own even just for personal use. I'll stick with my originals. ;)
-
lol. Yet Setekh so many people I know walk around with ipods.
-
I saw a 128Mb MP3 player for £40 in Homebase the other day, was sorely tempted, since I don't really need that many tunes at one time, but I thought I'd hold out for a few months longer and wait till I can pick up at least 256Mb for that price :)

:wtf:
Expensive: Perhaps, but still reasonable.
Unreliable: BS.
Crap Quality: Riiiiiight.... (http://images.google.com/images?q=slimx%20350&hl=en&lr=&safe=of**sa=N&tab=wi)
Or were you referring to something else completely?
-
Why does it have to be dead-even. Gah!

Get an iPod shuffle, 120-240 songs! I'm gettin' one...but they're not in Canada yet.

Then get a mini. It's 4 gigs.

Hooray for CDs!

I would get a shuffle but for the lack of screen and features (FM radio/voice record).
I will not get an Ipod because:
A. Expensive.
B. More space than I need.
I went ahead and got the iRiver via eBay. Got a nice deal too.
-
Why are you complaining about the space? You can always add more songs to the HDD as you get them, and not have to get rid of the originals... It's win-win. :wtf:
-
I haven't bothered with an MP3 player. I just use my normal CD player when on the road, and my computer at home. Sadly, the newer MP3 players have more space than my computer...
-
I don't have a portable MP3 player, but my car stereo plays MP3 CD's. So I'm good. Since I can't really afford to be wearing headphones at work, or in Calc class.
-
Read above post. They are pricey buggers.
-
I did. I asked why you were complaining about space, not if you thought it was expensive. :p
-
like **** there expencive, I got one for fifty bucks half the price of an mp3 player that holds 1/4th as much music.
-
The iPod is, and always has been, about 1 thing: looking cool. Everything that Apple puts out is less about function, more about looks. Just like the rest of just about everything, which leaves me out in the cold...

Crap quality, as in the way the player decodes/transmits audio. These things were meant to be CD players, but they have a very simple decoding algorithm that gives not-so-great output. Either that, or AudioVox makes the ****tiest audio hardware in the world, considering it wont take higher than 256kbps and it sounds like a truck ran over it. It's just like an AS SEEN ON TV product. It has the ability, yeah, but it doesnt do it well at all.
-
Umm, AudioVox is famous for their low-end, so-so car stereos, why should their consumer electronics be any different?
-
OK, very well. Point withdrawn.

Who the heck was talking about an AudioVox?? I linked to the iRiver SlimX, which I own, and which rocks.

I have a Creative Zen Micro player (5 gigs + FM), which is pretty good.

I know, not that much of it is legal. ;)
-
got a cheap enya 128Mb player.....dont have that much music and it was dirt cheap, so it works out for me. Although now that Ive added some new acquisitions to my collection, I am running out of space :/

And Ipod? Probably not.

All of my music is legal. I got a ton of these Sony Sonicstage download cards (and free movie downloads) at a fair I went to. Now I have a ton of downloads, but not much music I see worthwhile right now.
Edit: That reminds me, I have to go download some Gladiator tracks...

Holy ****, hardware support for Ogg. I never thought I'd see the day.
Nice
-
What are the advantages of OGG?
-
Better sound quality than MP3, but many implementations aren't really battery friendly.

Nice
Leave it to iRiver. I even have Snake on my SlimX discman's remote. :p
-
Where can I get .OGG music files?
-
Rip your CDs to WAV and then use an OGG encoder.
-
dB PowerAmp is decent for that.
-
Ok, thanks.
