Does anyone know of a program to convert quicktime MOVs to a more standard format like AVI or MPG?

I don't.

But Google does. (http://www.google.com/search?&q=MOV%20to%20AVI%20converter)

Just upgrade to Quicktime Pro.  It's only a few dollars and can export to MP4 and AVI.

I don't consider .mov files as a 'non standard' format btw..

I also like the ability to save movie trailers on my hard drive, and cut and paste the bits I like to new files if need be...

IIRC Premiere can do it.

it's 'non standard' in that it's proprietary, like .bnk. there realy isn't any reason not to have your media files in avi, given that it is a container format and you can encode your data however you like.

Install Quicktime Alternative (not 100% sure about the legality of the thing), rename the file to .AVI and then convert it with your favourite software (I use WME but VirtualDUB should work too.
