Title: Valve is screwing up again
Post by: Triple Ace on January 30, 2005, 09:57:56 pm
I just got my new issue of Computer Gaming World and it seems Valve is going in with a Japenese company to make an arcade version of Half Life 2. You heard me right, there is going to be an oversized HL2 quarter eating machine appearing in public arcades. In my opinion, HL2 was made for PC and that is where it should stay. I think Valve is going to lose money with this since most people have HL2 and that people in Japan don't care for first person shooters, it says that in the article. If you don't belive me, then grab a copy of the March issue of Computer Gaming World.

They'll probably rebuild it so it's like Crisis Zone or something.

I don't think they will, but if they do it will suck. Crisis Zone was horrible.

It was fun for a minute, until you had to kill the tank with an mp-5.

Like that 2D Freeman game I played for about 30 minutes and never touched again?

Or would it be a dumbed-down version of the original HL2. (Imagine somebody playing through the whole, untouched, game at a freakin' console... )

Edited: For, uh, great justice.

Doesn't that mean that they're going to have to rip the Steam dependant portions out?  Not many Arcade owners are going to want to buy a machine they have to plug into a broadband connection for 29 hours before they start making money off it.

How is that screwing up?
the It's on PC, it should stay on PC, well, it's so sad I'll leave it alone, but Liberator is most likely right, you don't have a FPS on arcade, you want the kid who puts the coin in being able to play right away. It can work, it just won't work better than any of the gun shooters before it ( like ouse of the dead, etc ).

Reminds me of Duke Nukem... difference is that the 2D version was sooner... :)

Crisis Zone was awesome. If you couldn't kill the tank you shouldn't be playing games. Pussies. I seriously thought I was going to get Vibration White Finger from playing that game.

I can see it now....

'Thank you for your quarter. Please wait while Steam connects....'
