You know I really respect the man.  I'm not Catholic but John Paul II is a guy to respect no matter what faith or religion.  He's toughed it out for quite some time and he's done alot of things that I figured he'd never be able to do in his condition with the sort of thing that he no doubt goes through each and every day.

You hope for the best for anyone but this may be it for him.  It was said some months ago in a visit to Poland that it would probably be the last time he visited his home country.  I think people are being realistic about his situation.

He's a tough old pollock...we'll see if he can pull through!

Who's next in line for the role, anyway?

Stupid, stupid, stupid, mofos! :hopping:

They never frigging learn!

Goddam morons!

You can't run one of the largest organisations in the world by choosing the oldest, most decripit, person for your leader every single time.  Why can't they pick someone who's 40 instead of 70+ when they take up the job?

Having said that, I don't wish him any specific harm.... :blah:

Seriously, for all the things they put the man through, I hope he dies and gets some rest.

After being the pope, it means he'll go to heaven by Christian logic, right?

I really wish him heaven, they've used him enough.

I heard from somewhere that the current pope said that his successor (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Possible_successors_to_Pope_John_Paul_II) will be the anti-Christ. *hands out grains of salt*

I think you're all forgetting this man promoted such marvelous ideas as the non-usage of condoms.

Like all religious leaders he's a hyprocrite and deserves to die.

Please hold me back from doing something drastic, like hunting down and brutally slaughtering this pathetic excuse for a forumite.

That aside, my prayers are with the pope, and I'm incredibly glad to hear that he's doing better.  He's the only pope I've ever known, and from those I've studied, he ranks up there as one of the best in history.  Even if you're not Catholic, you have to acknowledge the good he's done, including helping to encourage the Solidarity movement in Poland.

I feel sorry for the Pope -  he should retire rather than be dragged out around the world when he's clearly old, unwell and tired.  I know that he's supposed to be 'Gods voice on earth' or something for his entire life, but is it really that bad to let him rest?

While I don't agree with an0n latest alt-nic for saying he's an hypocrite and should be shot, I agree on the fact that he was a dick on the condom issue, though this decision was unmade not too long ago, proof that the Christian authority admits its mistake from time to time.

How is the Pope a "dick" by upholding Catholic moral teaching?  Last time I checked, that's one of his most important duties.  And you're wrong; the decision was not unmade, nor will it be.

You don't necessarily have to listen to what he or anyone else says.  There's a variety of viewpoints on the issue and thats what you have to expect.  Plus as I understand it, thats what you're supposed to do as a Catholic.  But I'm quite certain a great deal of Catholics don't listen to this particular piece of advice.

By saying anyone deserves to die is pretty insensitive and actually quite harsh.  But your words.

I respect the man for what he does: says what he thinks and manages to survive in the face of a difficult condition.   Thats admirable things by any measure....the rest is open to debate.

You can't be pissed at the Pope for not going against Catholic teachings and values. Thats not his job. But to his credit, he hasn't be particularly forceful or vocal on the condom issue AFAIK.

Well, fact of the matter is, it may not longer be down to religion, but more down to survival that we start looking a population control. But that aside, I think this Pope has been pretty good for the main part, seemingly more concerned with the Death Toll in the Middle East than the religion situation.

Maybe he realises that Christ was intended to be a Role Model, not a Figurehead?

Rictor, you don't like Bush and have a go at him over US Foreign policy - how is the pope different in relation to the Catholic church?

On a side note Popes aren't all bad... some are Grand Masters. ;) :D :nervous:
