OK, admins, I'd especially like to hear from you! ;)
Well, back in '01 or '02, I was searching for FS2 pictures and stumbled upon Blackwater Operations images. When I reached HLP, I immediately got scared off by the red and black, thinking this was a gothic site and my computer would get infested with viruses...(yeah, I know, a weird reaction :nervous:).
So I forgot about the site then stumbled upon it again in 2004 on the first day of school. Read up on classics like FreeSpace: Jeopardy, and other things. Registered later that month. :p
OK guys, spill. You too, Kalfireth and Setekh. :D
-
The beginning of course :)
-
Well, I had been lurking around the freespace.volitionwatch forums for, I don't know, a couple of months?
Then one day I remember checking out the BWO forums, and these guys there were talking about something called HLP. That's pretty much the way I ended up in here, and I'm glad I did. :D
-
Heh. Gothic site? I know a guy (asian, wears glasses) who used to be a goth, with all the hairdo and such, and now he's studying to become a minister!
No, wait, I'm going off subject... I found this site a short while after finding... no... wait... I can't give off my identity to Set'...
Lets just say.... ...early 2004....
-
I was directed here from a post on a Freespace thread on some mac gaming forums. A bit later I found out that a mod I'd been looking forward to (MT) was hosted there, so I registered.
-
I found the original Sector Game, then was duly directed here.

hell, my comic even first started here..

I think it was 2003 when I first found my way here, but for some reason I left too.. But when it was the time of The Derek Smart Wars/Year of the n00b I came back and registered. Now I refuse to leave :D
-
2003. Probably via :V:'s site, then proceeding to Volition Watch, after that HLP. Just watching most of the time.
Edit, having read Fishgut's post, I figure I was wrong - as the source code was released well after I started lurking VW. So, I figure it's rather early 2002.
-
I fould this place through VWBB shortly before the DS incident.
-
In the beginning, naturally. Been inviting people ever since. ;)
-
I have no idea how I found this place or what I'm doing here...
-
Back in 2001 I was browsing throgh the VBB and found a link to the XWAUP, which absorbed me for a year or so. Got interested in FS2 again -> found the VWBB (mainly TBP and BWO) -> some dude posted a link to the early SCP page an said there were those crazy people trying to get a real project rolling.
I bookmarked the page, since it looked promising although not much was implemented back then (mainly new SexPs and bugfixes and removed limits). That was sometime in 2002, but I didn't know what this HLP thing was supposed to be (besides hosting for the SCP), but with time I wandered more and more outside of the SCP forum and got sucked in and eventually registered.

You're sure you're certified not insane? Sounds like a textbook case to me... :p
-
Got here in fall of '01 through the link on the Machina Terra website after searching for FS2 on Google. Lurked for a while, then decided to join up in January '02.
-
Probably linked to from somewhere, back in the day when Freespace sites were abundant.
even though my registration date says eary 2002, I lurked for a while so I probably found it sometime during the latter half of 2001...
-
when it was announced on volitionwatch i found HLP, lurked few months first. then registered that was in 2001
-
i donno

I can forge most certificates, I also am working on a 'sane' stamp as used by the Simpsons when visiting the asylum that time...
-
I was on the VBB a few months before it went down in flames, then jumped on a life-raft over to HLP.
-
Sometime just before the VBB end (we didn't know they would shut it down at the time).
-
I discovered HLP in late 2001, while looking for a way to shield an Aeolus :p
I lurked for a few months then i registered in early 2002 and i'm still here :)
-
you left out 'when the vbb shut down' cause honestly i cant remember when that happened :D
but aparantly i registered for the forum in 2002
-
I got banned from the VBB and WS for fighting with the WS crew, then came to HLP to continue the *****fest.
-
Found SG in early Sept. this year, and finally made it here in Nov.:)
-
Found it while the Vbb still existed, and spent a few months lurking as guest before finally registering.
-
November, 2002.
I found HLP via Gamespy. I went into the games section and clicked FreeSpace. It directed me to HLP.
-
When Ross 128 went kaput.
I guess Thunder wanted more admin pain, I got curious and wandered over here :)
-
Came over from just a month or two before the VBB fell.
I remember back when HLP first started. I peeked in and thought "Wow, just another fan site. Don't think it'll last"
Thank God I was wrong :D
-
I think I found both SectorGame and HLP when I was looking through the B5 project, it's so long ago though, I'm not sure :D
-
I typed in letters at random in my browser, and somehow ended up here.
no. ze VBB.
-
I sort of stumbled in here in late 2004 while looking for mods or campaigns that might still be online after all these years.
Needless to say, I got the shock of my life. I'm used to seeing mod projections abandoned one or two years after the game's release, with the exception of MekTek and Magic's Unoffical MechCommander 2 Expansion. So I blithely walk into HLP, take a look at the projects list...
"HOLY CRAP!"
-
From the beginning, of course.
...FOR I AM CARL! LORD AND MASTER OF ALL THE FS UNIVERSE!!!!
couldn't think of anything else to say.
-
Profile says March or 2002. But I'll be buggered if I can remember how I got here, 'course I can't remember much beyond a couple of weeks ago most of the time anyway...
-
i remember steak, shrike and thunder kept mentioning a secret project called *** on VBB before HLP was even opened. joined the first day.
-
I was... umm... You know I dont really know.... I think I was looking for FS3.
-
Can't remember exactly...
I downloaded the HotU version, found the FS: Oracle, then somehow found the SCP's webpage. Then a few months later waiting for another release I found that they had forums. I was pleasantly surprised when I saw how active the place was. So I decide to stay awhile.
-
Linked from the VBB. Didn't join up day 1, because it was a modding forum, and I was a FREDder, not a modder. Then, a few months into it I think I registered to post some smileys or something about... someone's Rhino or Brazil or something renders of the FS2 ships so that they looked like real, physical models. Then went back to thhe VBB for ages, gradually increasing my activity here.
-
Was looking for new ships to play with, found VWatch. I either followed a link from there or googled and found this place. Can't remember exactly. That was in 2002.
-
It was in the beggining. 2001. I went on the VBB quite often, talking about doing a mod for Space: Above and Beyond as well as a Freespace movie. And by then the place had been infested with trolls. Then I don't remember who it was, I think Setekh or Thunder liked my idea for Space: Above and beyond and would like to host it on HLP. Then I visited HLP, forgot about my mod and stayed. I posted something about a freespace movie, and people were so friendly and positive that it impressed me. I felt at home. To be honest, this is the only forum I "regularly" post on.
-
Heh, I found this place via Inferno's Forums. One day, I just decided to search up some mods 'n **** on the internet. Clicked a few links, a BAM, I'm here.
Don't let my register date fool you. I've been lurking the HLP forums since WELL before HLP 2.0.
-
Year of the n00b for me. It still seems like it's been so long since 6-29. And yet it's only been about half a year. Time doesn't fly at these forums! Or is it just me? :nervous:

After finishing FS1 again, decided to look around for the sequel. Eventually found it on HOTU but before that, I looked around here for a bit. I remember being enchanted by the telling of the Freespace games in in-game shots, though I didn't fully understand due to not having played FS2.
But I did, and I finished it, and I came back, and here I am.
-
I was running a Google for goat porn and then....
The Babylon 5 Project lead me here eventually. I've always hated FS for not having glowy windows like in XWA. When I saw the GLOWIES and the SHINIES, I got sucked into this modding frenzy.
-
i'm here basically because steak told me to come here when we were at school, in hlp's first year of existence.
hlp must be really special. i don't even game and i'm still addicted. i must be the only regular on these forums who has never actually _played_ fs1 or 2.
-
Beginning of 2004, aka, the Year of the n00b. :D
And I am still the pimple on the HLP's ass that I was a year ago! :D
-
I came here when it was first announced on the VWBB.
Hell, I sent Sandwich here. :p It's all my fault! He didn't even want to join up! I convinced him to!
-
March 2001, roughly a week or so after I joined the VBB. I submitted a news post about a mission I released to Ross 128. The news submissions for that site were sent to Thunder/Kalfireth, who then posted my news at HLP instead, and I've been here ever since.
I was also one of the first hosted projects, even though not much was ever actually produced.
-
Found out HLP when I was using google in search for a way to run resolutions higher than the standard 1024x768 and was searching for planet models. :)
-
Heard about this place when they first announced it on the VBB 2001... and registered. Moved here when VBB closed.
-
Raa! So you're the one to blame! ;)

HLP is pretty special. But the rest isn't true. You did play FreeSpace - you didn't get past the training missions, though. ;)
-
I was pestering Thunder and Steak about it almost before they started with the "***" stuff on the VBB.
-
I found HLP after PXO closed... I was searching Descent 4-related stuff and finally I decided to find a way to play online again. I heard there was the SCP and that the DarkWing (DW over FS2) played over the internet. So I searched for the DW site, went to their forum, and they talked about HLP. Then I discovered it. I still don't play online because I don't have the full version of FS2. Just a demo-like version that runned multiplyer. *sob*... so I sticked at the art section.
-
Um... You know that with the SCP and with the correct VPs from Fractux's server, you can have, in essence, the full version. Don't you?
And yeah, Setekh. I feel so bad for what I have unleashed upon you poor unsuspecting forumites.
-
I have no precise recollection on how I found HLP.
Probably Teno' (veterans will know who I'm talking about) directed me here.

Nope.. I didn't know. And I don't know how to do what you said there. But if you explain, I would REALLY appreciate it. Is it like replacing Red Faction VPs?
-
I think Fractux has a server with the VPs... and you can just download SCP builds to run the game.
-
Oh, and I have been here since a little bit after the beginning.

I thought he was more junior than you for some reason... apparently forumite psychology isn't my strong suite...

*looks at join date*
October 2003 I joined, but I found this place about 2 months or so before I joined.
Was mostly lurking (which I'm still doing kind of :p).
Joined up to get help with a Freespace problem or two, and then just stuck around.
-
I was at the VBB and people kept talking about me having to go to HLP. I thought they were misspelling "help".
Then I was linked here and have been lurking ever since.
-
Really, people talked like that? How the times have changed. :p
-
When the VBB closed, and Shrike left a link in his wake...

Yep... Thats what i thought :p ...
Thats also what the new yorkers thought when they saw GE in a train station with a HLP sign apparently :D ...
-
i found VWBB and started work on CoW, then found this place through there. Actually i went there looking for some guidance on fs2 demo multiplayer for a mechwarrior league that i had designed. next thing you know...fs2 is better than mechwarrior.

eh, training missions aren't actually part of the _game_. they're just there to let you get the hang of the keys and stuff... unfortunately i'm too unco. one day i'll have to borrow fs off you and try again.
-
Too uncoordinated for FS? jeez, I hope you don't become a surgeon...
-
well, i could become a psychiatrist. that'd probably be scarier. i'd be the one consigning everyone to the lunatic asylum.
-
Better than I would be:
"Wow, your life really does suck." or "You're an idiot. Get out."
-
well, i tell people that anyway. you don't need a licence to say that.
