OK this is today's discussion. Babylon 5 Shadows against FS2 shivans. Post your thoughts here.

Lets be honest, the Shadows would win, for one their planet killer is far more powerful than the Shivan Sathanas or Lucifer. It also has the capacity to lower the temperature of the ships it surrounds, and considering the biological nature of the Shivans, they'd be affected to. Oh, and the Shadows ships are much more powerful and maneuverable than any of the Shivan equivilants.

Um....the shivans will dump so much firepower that they'll ****kick anything stupid enough to get in arc.  (this is from SB.com - we figured a Sathanas puts out roughly 530-odd gigatons of energy in a 7 second beam volley)

Well, as we say in france:"paper doesnt refuse ink". If someone writes a story with aliens that can fire weapons tanhat can go back in time, then you culture thigs will be owned. All this is ridiculous. Even if those things are based on realistic theories, it's pointless. I prefer "weak" shivans, they are powerful enough to quick the GTVA's ***  one hundred times, I don't ask for more, I would rather ask for different.

The thing is, people take what I say about the Culture to mean they're one dimensional.  That can't be further from the truth.  If you've read any of the books (obviously you haven't) you'd realize that technology is so ubiqutuous that it's almost a non-issue.  Sure, anyone can write about stuff that'll slag a Culture warship, but unless it has realistic characters, plots and everything else that makes a good story (BTW, Iain M. Banks is acknowledged as one if not the the current top British Sci-Fi author) what's the point of debating it?
